No, they were supposedly Arian Christians, a branch that was heavily procecuted in the Empire but widespread among the Goths and further steppe peoples. They were in contact for a very long time before the influx into the Empire, perhaps even 125 years.

Considering there isn't many alternatives to paganism at the time I think it is rather certain that they were pagans.
They never had enough contact with the Chinese to be converted to Buddhism, so I'm certain they were pagans more or less until they met the Goths.
