Does anyone know if there is any actual benefit to receiving a good news event, like you are the richest or have the strongest army or the greatest tech level, etc?

I know I like to see them ~:) but do they do any real good? Like increase happiness or make others dislike you? ~

Not sure except for making you feel good when you get the message ~D .
But when I get the 'largest military' one I usually know it is about time to
get out and :smash: somebody. :rifle:

These messages should increase your influence but I'm not entirely sure of that.

Over at the .c0mmie, some of the tech heads (MotorHead, Maeda et al) said that if you get "Largest Military" message the AI is less likely to attack you for the next ten or so years (out of fear), while if you get the "I'm the Richest" message they are more likely to attack you (out of greed) for the next ten or so years (although I'm not sure on the lenght of time it lasts).

.c0mmie?

The two main Medieval - Total War forums, this one here and http://p223.ezboard.com/fshoguntotalwarfrm5, are nicknamed the "org" and "com" by some folks.

I've still yet to finish a campaign but I must have started about 6 or 7 times. I've had the richest, strongest message numerous times and maybe even had 'most contented population' at least once, with the English. However, I could never work out what was so special about other factions' buildings which gave them the best tech development.

At long last, I got the best tech message a few nights ago, as the Byz. ~D

However, I'm none the wiser about what triggers it off yet, apart from having completed a Reliquary not long beforehand. There's nothing special about my training centres elsewhere, mostly level 1 or 2, some Guild level ones in the capital and maybe just one Master Horse Breeder. ~

While I can't say for sure, I would suggest that being the most advanced means having the single most advanced province.

Most dev means you have the provence with most buildings(there's probably a 'by how much' modifier though). This is why the owners of Castille, and Constantinople get it alot in early.

Now, that's interesting to know. Either the HRE (now extinct, under the French boot) or the Spanish were the first ones to get this, in my campaign.

Funnily enough, my last look at Castille (or Castile, as the game spells it) showed only about 6 buildings. When the message occured in their favour, the game map auto-panned across and Valencia was highlighted, albeit empty as I saw it, since I had no agent there. Later recon revealed they were already up to a Drinking Den, amongst other things. At the moment only me and Il Popino have provinces where the buildings list goes onto a second page. Alarmingly, the rebels in Norway and Sweden aren't that far behind us!

Anyway, it seems that it's worth paying attention to the highlighted province when you see that message for one of the AI factions and, optionally, get a priest/Emissary/Princess over to there a.s.a.p. to assess what they've got.

I used to put at least one holy man (aka priest, imam, shaman) to every province: they serve both the case of conversion and espionage.

Recently I realized that if playing as a Catholic power this hinders the effectiveness of my Inquisitors and Grand Inquisitors! So now if I intend to burn someone I remove my priest from the province.

I believe that you get GA points whenever you get those messages - if you are playing GA, that is.

Are you sure? Even the 'largest military' one? ~ . I only play GA
and I haven't noticed this yet, but I am not certain either way. :dizzy2:
