I'm of 100% byzantine romaios lineage so I named myself accordingly.
It is the Civil War term for the United States (Union Troops) Army Field Artillery soldiers. It came about because the Army used colors to designate the different branches of the Army - and a stripe was sewn along the outseam of the pants leg. Red is the color for Artillery - hence Redlegs came about as the Nickname.

Duke Malcolm
08-20-2005, 12:20
Firstly, after Malcolm III Canmore, King of Scots. He annexed some of Northumbria and Strathclyde, and made the language of his court Saxon. His wife was Queen, now Saint, Margaret. He replaced the Celtic Church with the Catholic Church as the established church of the realm. he also abolished the tradition of Tanistry, by which the King was eleced by a council of nobles, and replaced it with Primogeniture so that it was the kingship was hereditary (I prefer both the Celtic Church, which is much older than the Catholic; and Tanistry of Pictish origins I believe)
Secondly, it is after my Christian name, Malcolm, and I want to be King, so King Malcolm seemed sensible.

Paul Peru

https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=47742
15 years ago I was in London with a friend. We went off in search of an Ethiopian restaurant we had found in a directory.
We didn't fint it, and for some reason we ended up at an "all you can eat" pizza buffet. We were very ironic, I guess.
We found the house red to be modestly priced, and gave it more attention than the pizza, which was probably of little merit.
I eventually had to "go", and proudly announced that this would indeed be the largest leak since the Titanic.
My friend then said
Quote:
"Ya'll take a listen, you'll hear the deep sound comin' down from Paul Peru."
which is a line from "Wild at heart", only it's said by Bobby Pery about Bobby Peru.
My friend later explained that
a) I think I'm very deep, but all that comes out of me is piss
b) He thought I resembled Willem Dafoe (I don't)
The name stuck, and I've been using it as an alias and "evil alter ego" since.

but abandoned it because it was similar to a few other names here then, and folks got confused.
When Mongol Invasion demo was released, many usernames here had to do with swords, blades, etc; so I picked an unusual weapon (the kukri) and added Khan to make it more relate to the game.

Uesugi Kenshin
08-21-2005, 03:29
Well Uesugi Kenshin (1530-1578 iirc) was a great warlord in Sengoku Jidai era Japan and I'm horrible at pciking names so I just picked that one as it had a TW theme and Kenshin is my favorite warlord of the time period.
I don't know if anybody has done it before but here i put mine:
Soulforged is a song for the german epic power metal band "Blind Guardian", wich tells the story of Raistlin of the Dragonlance series.

Jimmytwohand
08-22-2005, 11:34
Well i presently work at a particularly tedious security job. To pass the time i try to devise little ways to entertain myself like "visitor bingo". In this you have to select various phrases people may say to you during the course of the day and make a bingo card of them. When they are said you tick it off. You also choose several evil/unlikely things for your colleague who you play against. The first to get all their phrases wins....but i digress.
My nickname came about because before the evolution of visitor bingo, madman top trumps and clothing cricket i underwent a phase of trying to become ambidextrous. I tried to learn to play darts in our mess room left handed, write left handed and do various pen tricks left handed. One night a few of the lads and i were working late and goodfellas was on the TV, we saw the bit about "johnnytwotimes" who says everything twice, "I gotta go get the papers, get the papers". Somebody suggested i would be a good JimmyTwoHand.....and there we go.
If any one else works a particularly tedious job, full rules for all of the above games can be provided. ~D ~:handball:
King Ragnar
08-22-2005, 12:20
King Ragnar was one of my greatest king in my old VI Campaign, so i just used that.
My nick is derived from "Homo Ludens", which means "playing man" in Latin. I am bad at making up names, so when I had to think of an interesting nick for the umpteenth time I just tried to translate player in Latin. Since my Latin is not good, I ended up with Ludens: playing. And since it pretty much summed up what I was doing at the time, so I stuck with it.

I was just on a Tolkien kick. Hurin was my favorite character in The Silmarillion, and the greatest of the warriors of mortal men in Tolkien's corpus. If you're interested, I also recommend the work called the 'Narn-i-hin-Hurin', which never made it into the Silmarillion but was published in one of the 'Making of Middle Earth' volumes--you can read it here:

Aenlic is Saxon/Old English for solo/alone. It transformed into "anly" in Middle English and then "only" in modern English. It should be Ænlic; but I'm usually too lazy to use the alt-keypad combos and some places don't support them.

My first nick was Daveinkorea. I had joined the Org while I was serving in Korea in the Air Force...
A few years ago, there was a thread of the worst album covers ever. Well, the funniest one was "Devastatin Dave, the Turn Table Slave". The guy on the cover looked like a cracked-out Jermaine Jackson look alike, with the jerry curls, sun glasses, everything. I can't remember who suggested it (I'm thinking it was either Idaho, Gawain, Jag, or possibly Redleg) but they suggested that I'd ask Tosa to change my name from daveinkorea to Devastatin' Dave. Tosa graciously changed it for me. It was messed up at first because of the " ' " at the end of the word "devastatin". So we chopped off the " ' ". Now its working like a champ, unless I'm banned for whatever stupid thing I say next!!!

Back in the STW days I was looking for a Japanese sounding forum name. I had a tradition of sort of using my first name and modifying it for D&D (Gregolas), online Starcraft (Gregus), etc. For STW, I looked at Japanese names and their endings. After some deep thinking, I decided that "oshi" was the best. I've been Gregoshi every since.
Got it from a book I was reading before the release of RTW.
PanzerJaeger

Its my online name in all applications, forums, and games - ive even had packages sent to me under that name.
When I first started online games I wanted to call myself Panzer in honor of my grandfather who was a panzer commander in world war two. However, Panzer is an all too common name and I often couldnt use it.
I remembered that my grandfather briefly commanded a panzerjäger (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panzerjager) before being chosen for an actual tank, so that had to do.

Years and years ago, I was playing a Windows strategy game called World Empire, in which you were supposed to conquer the modern world country by country, in a TotalWar fashion, leading your faction as a general. I decided to name my general Muzaffer Postal, which means "The Glorious Boots". Then I bastardized the Muzaffer (glorious, originally مظفر) part and thus became Mouzafphaerre. ~:)

I thought and tried to make a name for something like 15 minutes I think, and for some reason it came up as this, don't remember exactly how but I think it was a sort of mix of some names and some words, but I am the only one in the world(as far as I know atleast) using this nickname, it is completely unique.

I got the nickname Spino from a close friend back in college. He said he got it from a book he had to read in literature class ("Bread & Wine") which features a protagonist named Pietro Spina. I believe the character was initially quite the atheist and anti-religion type. I was a unapologetic atheist back then but I certainly wasn't anti-religion. Anyway my friend must have deliberately or accidentally dropped the 'a' in Spina and replaced it with an 'o'. Good thing too because on its own Spino sounds much more masculine than Spina. Spino is a very real name though and is found commonly in Italy and other latin based cultures (i.e. Espinosa). Here's the origin of the name: spino-, spin-, spini- (Latin: thorn, prickle; by extension, "backbone", the spinal cord)
I try to use the name Spino in virtually every single forum and game I play. Chances are if you play games online and see the nickname Spino it's probably me. If you see a Spino playing BF2 that's definitely me because Gamespy only allows one person to have the same nickname.
really ? You sure about that , never heard / read about a spell like that..

I don't know about any Harry Potter spells but I do know that Quietus was an uber-powerful sword for the warrior class in "Hexen: Beyond Heretic", the sequel to "Heretic." Heretic and Hexen were two outstanding first person shooters by Raven that appeared during the Doom revolution of the 90s.

I wanted to the name of Sanada Yukimura (http://www.answers.com/topic/sanada-yukimura) for Shogun online play back in Oct 2000, but it was already taken. I settled on Yuuki as a nickname for Yukimura after learning from Idaho that Yuki was a female name. About a month later I added Mizu (water) as a prefix when Clan Takiyama (waterfall mountain) was formed. Interestingly, Yuuki means courage in Japanese, but I didn't know that at the time. Sanada Yukimura was killed in 1615 leading 55,000 men against Tokugawa Ieyasu's 155,000 man army, which was sieging Osaka castle, in a desperate attempt to break the siege. A smaller flanking force which was supposed to take part advanced too late. This ended the last rebellion against Tokugawa rule which lasted for the next 250 years.
Makkyo came from the STW days. It's a minor Japaneese demon that plagues people in their dreams. But don't quote me on it :book:

ArcticSonata is just another indication that my mind is to consumed listening to power ( just the Band Sonata Arctica backwards) that and I really could'nt think of anything else to put.
I wanted to the name of Sanada Yukimura (http://www.answers.com/topic/sanada-yukimura) for Shogun online play back in Oct 2000, but it was already taken. I settled on Yuuki as a nickname for Yukimura after learning from Idaho that Yuki was a female name. so why the change to Puzz3D?
so why the change to Puzz3D?
My posting name was always Puzz3D. I joined the org in June 2000 when STW was released not Oct 2000 as it says under my name. I chose Yuuki as a player nickname when I started playing STW online in Oct 2000 so that I would have a name that went better with the Japanese setting of the game. Once these two names became established I decided not to change them.
Megas Methuselah
10-07-2009, 23:10
According to the bible/torah, Methuselah is the oldest man ever recorded to live. Although that normally wouldn't serve as an allure for a username, a distinct childhood memory of mine was having an old east-Indian (that is, an Indian from India) man give me a hand-reading and stating in his quiet and wise voice that I would live to be an old man. :laugh4:
So I chose Methuselah as my username. Later on, having made a bit of repuation as a spammer (and necromancer) in the EB Forums, a fellow called ||Lz3|| suggested I pick up the epithet Magnus, the great, much to the acclamation of the EB Tavern members. Aemilius Paulus later suggested Megas, the greek form of the latin Magnus, which sounded better to the ears. I chose that one and switched my username before the whole pevergreen incident which limited username-changing.

Bah, that is not true, and you know it. I called you Magnus, granting you that epithet, and Lz3 had nothing to do with this. That happened in your personal SG, "Methuselah's Palace". The Taverners were not involved. But then you did not like it much due to the way it sounded, so you chose Megas. I forgot who suggested that though...

I saw some guy on TF2 with this name. That is all.
It all started a long time ago..some three years at most. Anyways, I was playing FIFA Football 2002 on the PS2 with my friend and I kept winning, so he said I used "hax". I then took over that name.

Actually I suggested Attometh. ;)
Now, as far as mine goes, it's an acronym for "Latinoz 3lite" (Elite latins). That was my COD4 clan when I used to play videogames (before uni ), and it's not bragging or anything, but we had some of the best players out there (1 top 10 and several top 100).
Now, when I joined the org, every other name I tried was already taken (I think), and since I knew no one from my "clan" was interested in playing RTS games, I chose it.

Wow epic thread necromancy. Is 4 years a record?
Anyways.... Back in 08 my friends thought it would be awesome to be the best/biggest/what ever clan in Age of Conan. We had 350 members from day one. Well 3 weeks before the game came out I was desperately looking for a latin name that would go with our sassy name of Dies Irae. My original gaming nick was CowTipp which derived from CowTipper which came from CowTippingHick Which was given to me in BF2 for the PS2. For some reason the clan I was in when I played that game back in the day called all armor Cow's or for multiples, cattle. I used to talk like a hick and soooo they started calling me the CowTippingHick after I got extremely good at killing tanks. We called heli's chickens, still dont know why.
And back to Veho Nex. Roughly translates into Rider of Death or Sailor of Death... I meant it to be the fourth rider of the Apoc, the one who controlled the first 3 and even had Hades following him around
It's from my rainbow six days, a frag is a kill and being killed hurts. It kinda sticked it looks and sounds great imho.

When this thread was created:
Ghost908- I used the nick ghost in a lot of old FPS i used to play and added 908 as my birthday
Then...
Ice- Shortened Version of my aol screen name which I've been using for many years
Then...
Kush- Named after a particular item which originated in India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and/or Iran.
Then...
Back to Ice :clown:

did you ever play Ravenshield?
if you did, did you ever play a map called UWA_REMF, cos i made it?
"Lemur" has been my nom de guerre for a long, long time. When I worked in an office, the people who I managed even bought me a stuffed lemur toy for my desk. (It quickly made its way into my little lemur's crib.)
I also maintain a secondary identity as "Jethro Q. Lungfish," another animal-themed name which is just silly enough to make people think twice but not quite so absurd that they challenge me. I have signed many, many forms that I didn't want to fill out under Mr. Lungfish's name. I've even published under it.
But if you asked anyone in my family where the lemur was, they'd know who you meant.

Been a while, made a few short trip to Raven Shield but kept getting back at Rogue Spear, better paced, better maps.

Pretty obvious for all RTW players... Anything cooler than Horse Archers from the steppes? No? I didn't think so...
When I was younger I started writing a book and the main character was named "Zain Anduin"
I liked the character as he was modeled after a favorite video game character of mine named "Squall Leonheart"
So I chose Zain
I was originally trying to register the name of "Subotei" as a charcter on a WoW server. Since I had forgotten how it was spelt, out came "Subotan", which I'm actually happier with, since it's more unique.
Kush- Named after a particular item which originated in India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and/or Iran.
Hehe. Hehe. He. He. :beam:
Originally Rythmic, misspelt for annoyance, chosen as I played bass. Hence kept the rhythm.
Now Psychonaut, because I like it. :balloon2:

Rhyfelwyr
10-09-2009, 18:15
Caledonian Rhyfelwyr came from a unit of a very similar name in Europa Barbarorum. It has since changed to Balrooae (sp?), and it's the skirmisher unit you get in Scotland. Since then I renamed to just Rhyfelwyr since that's a neater size for a username, although this has had the unfortunate side-effect of leading to accusations of Welshness, propagated mainly by a certain member of the EB Tavern. :tongue2:
Rob The Bastard
10-09-2009, 20:14
Back in LAN party days, we would play deathmatch with Deltaforce etc.
I would sneak off into the distance with a sniper rifle, and kill my friends...

SPLAT
"You were killed by ROB! (Headshot!)"
and my friends would look over at me and say
"Rob! you bastard!"

let me clear it up:
"Hooah" is more of an army thing, specifically Army Rangers. Martok is thinking of "Oorah", which is the more Marine thing.
Not that there is no mixing and matching, but it's more "Hooah"-Army "Oorah"-Marines
easy to confuse audibly though.

Mistranslation of my name into latin.
Mine was an informal term used by British infantrymen during the World Wars to refer to themselves.
I picked it though because it also seemed a rather apt description of the infantry in Medieval II (the installment I was playing when I signed up here). They all seemed to be either unable to attack at all, reliant on a formation which collapses at the first sign of trouble or simply not very good in the first place.
