Seen as the last thread of this name was locked (for no good reason that I could see)before I got the chance to post, i'm going to add my 2 cents worth here.
If there was no religion there would be no bloody Mormons or JW's to wake me up 3 Sunday's in a row before 8am, forcing me to answer the door in the birthday suit in a vain attempt to repel my unwanted guests. Now that would be a good thing!
Seems it takes more than full male nudity to deter the fanatics these days. Now they come Saturdays......sigh :help:

Seriously.
Without religion you would have North Korea-the SU mixtures everywhere.
There is no reason to believe that lack of religion would stop or lower the number of wars or anything 'evil'.
The 20th century proved that extreme atheism is equally dangerous as religious fanatics.

This is just another thread to preach intolerance of any belief whatsoever. I suggest this be moved to the backroom or closed.

I don't think so. I think you are completely wrong. It is simply a discussion on how the world would be a far better place without religion.
But yes, it probably does belong in the backroom.
I fail to see how the religion is THE problem. Religion can be used for purposes that arn't very good. But so have the evolution idea and pretty much all poltical ideas, as well as most other ideas as well. Not to mention economical facts and the like.
The only way that humans will finally be out of conflics and problems is when everyone is excatly the same. Look the same, like the same things, live in the same place and generally be clones of each other.
I have nothing personal against Religion or have nothing against anybodies own set of beleifs but I still feel that Religion is the cause of most of what is bad in the world today. But thats just my opinion.

Without religion, we most certainly would not have progressed beyond simple tribal communities, as has been suggested. However, at our current level of organisation and development, religion has become obsolete - it was neccessary to get us where we are now, but from here on forth, it can do us no good. So long as different, organised religions oppose each other, and people refuse to be at least a little more flexible in their interpretation of the religious scriptures and teachings, religion will bring the modern world more suffering than relief.

I am not atheist , I just have no proof of God existence - there is a big different .
The atheist is saying that God isn't there and that's it . I , as a non-believer are just saying (again) - "I have no proof , so why belive ?"
Now , did Atheism is calling people to kill others ? (like many other religions in the past and even now)
Religion is against thinking , Socrates the great was killed just because he was a thinking man and preached against the religious establishment and it was in "democratic" Athens (my English , לעזאזל)
Dear believers , don't take if as an offence .

Can't edit !!
I meant , "a big difference"
Now , did Atheism is calling people to kill others ?
It did justify the colonisation of Africa, among other things. In the end both religion and atheism isn't better than the other.

This topic is closed - as was the last one. Why? The answer is in several patrons' posts. Read post #1 in this thread by Revelation (a nearby example only, I'm not picking on him alone). Where is the historical tie-in? The whole point of the post is to take a cheap shot at religion. And that was the case in the previous thread too - enough of the participants couldn't keep the discussion at a historical, let alone civil, level. Cheap shots and nasty comments made on both sides of the argument. Sorry, but that is unacceptable behaviour.
Another thing, I've been seeing too many posts lately containing words like "I don't mean to offend, but..." and then the poster proceeds to offend. Like the comment "I don't mean to offend" somehow softens the offending remark or makes it okay. If you don't mean to offend someone, then find the right words to make your point and not offend the person. If you really try, you can do it.
Before you write a post, ask yourself what your motivation for posting is. If the answer is to insult or disrespect another patron or group or to seek revenge for an offense (real or imagined), then you are posting for the wrong reason. I'm not sure what is going on lately, but there seems to be a Backroom type atmosphere here in the Monastery lately and it is disturbing me greatly.
