View Full Version : What Addiction Most Plagues You, Next Turn Syndrome or Pausing During the Battle
This one is a toss up. I can't count the days I tried for ONE LAST TURN - then its been 15 turns later and I have to get up in 6 hours.
Then again, there is nothing like the pause button to mass charge the enemies front lines while ordering your horses to hit the flanks and have them execute your orders AT ONCE.

Well, I quit the Pause button a few months ago - I was training myself to join the MP ranks, something which I've never got round to
But I now no longer use the pause button - except to answer the phone etc.
But the Next Turn Syndrome...oh man. This one is a killer when its 2230 and you have to be up at 0445 to go to work..... :dizzy2:

My addiction is 'uninstall after well fought big battle win CTD.'
My addiction is 'uninstall after well fought big battle win CTD.'
Ouch; that's gotta suck. ~
My newest addiction is "have the perfect battle plan, only to have the enemy AI do something completely unexpected and beat the crap out of my army six ways from Sunday". (I'm having some difficulties playing as Novgorod in XL Early at the moment.) It's certainly frustrating in a way, but I like that the AI can still outsmart me, even after I've been playing Medieval all this time. ~
Since I never use the pause button, I guess its the "one more online battle before bedtime" thingy.
ichi
My addiction is playing the turn based game and not botherring conquerring anyone. I conquer a nice snug little kingdom, build a navy and trade network and just amass 100000s of florins and build up my empire and through the decades I'm thinking, should I attack now or wait until I've finnished the next armour upgrade in my men at arms producing provinces, should I attack now or wait until i can produce feudal knights, should i attack now or wait until i have completed 15 fortresses each with master armourers and master bowyers, swordsmiths and spearmakers and my metalsmithing provinces each with the neccesary tech tree buildings and master metalsmith, should i attack now or wait until 1205 and start upgrading all my provinces etc etc...

I've had CTDs happen after epic and really well fought battles that I've given out on MTW until I get a new comp. I mean, it's a slap in the face if you've achieved something great and you get a CTD right after.

Definately the Next Turn Syndrome for me. I don't even bother trying to use the pause button in my SP games. In MP that's a necessity though.

I'm with you on that...
Had an amazing battle last night, outnumbered around 4-to-1, and managed to get a 4-to-1 kill ratio despite the troop types being against my favour. Didn't win, but it was a major dent into the enemy.
Finished the battle, then CTD.
Gotta love that CTD addiction...
And if I were you, antisocialmonkey, I'd give up - this is on a new (and pretty bloody decent) comp. I blame MTW!

The next turn syndrome for sure...
I love this game and all the mods...
HTW has some great perfectly balanced historical battles...
Oh, lordy... does it ever end...?

Can't you retrain units in a provence that has that upgrade be it armour or what have you?

Same here pal! ~;) , my beverage is Mountain Dew or Pepsi/Coke :embarassed: . Here's to us ~ .
I have all of the afflictions and syndrome mentioned above. All of them.
I can't kick the pause habit, especially with big armies. If I did, I'm sure there'd be masses of souped-up horses getting butchered by spears, coz I left them sitting around while I focused on something else...

I'm slowly using the pause botton less and less. Not really worried about it, I don't play MP so no big deal.

me too! I reckon its alright to pause, i mean, if it was a real battle, youd have one of your cronies to keep an eye on stuff, you wouldnt have to dictate it all individually like that

You would also have officers to make the immediate decisions on the fron lines. You give them orders in advance and the execute them. Unfortunately not too much leeway with that one in gany kind of game simulation. Cognitive thought (or lack thereof if you were ever enlisted and had to deal with the bastards) of officers would be way to hard to program into a game. SO... pause to your littel hearts conten. No general had to order every little manouver when it was to happen. Course they never got instantanious response either.
Just had the "one more turn" thing last night. . .ahem morning. "I'll just click End Year. . . ", Next thing I know I have 2 huge battles to resolve :dizzy2: . Went to bed at 6.10am. Oooops.
That is because CA cleverly hard-coded a psychic capability into the game. Whenever you begin thinking "just one more turn" and hit the end turn, the game goes into "We got him now" mode and does something completely unexpected and annoying the very next turn. This evil sub-routine can only be broken by morning light causing glare on your screen. Beware cloudy days or playing above the Arctic circle during winter; they can be deadly.
Good post Aenlic! :laugh4: I only stayed up until 3am last night playing :embarassed: .
I have both addictions :embarassed: . Oh well.
It used to be the "next turn syndrome", but now I pause way too much. I blame R:TW, since I can't play that game without using pause.
Well, I can, but I won't accept it if my elite cavalry get butchered because they didn't counter charge and I was tied up at the other side off the battlefield. I consider that unfair, so I pause. Regularly. I also pause to take close-ups of the battle, to see my general giving orders, to...
Oh, sod it. I am just addicted. ~:)

Im hooked on next turn syndrome.Just one more battle before.......It is an addiction but there are worse things you can be addicted to.As for the pause button i hardly ever use it as i forget its there in the heat of battle.Actually the game reminds me in a way of the Perky Pat Layout in Philip K Dicks The Three Stigmata Of Palmer Eldritch in the way you can be absorbed into it.Got three games on the go at the mo on BKB.Elmos GA,Bulgarians Conquest and my first stab at Expert with the English, its crazy but fun,
The Kalifah Of Watton (currently somewhere where he cant play the game.)
Well, for me it's about unit upgrades and I only do it once I've conquerred a large portion of land and am getting 10000s of florins per turn from trade.

LOL, I can relate.

Last night, I just "one more turn"ed my way from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.!!! I could swear it was just an hour, but daylight never lies. Nuff said.
At least it's not as bad as it used to be - at least now there's a quicksave button in the pre-battle menu!
