This would be a good thread to make a poll on what are the type of musics more listened. Anyway this are mine:
-Blind Guardian, Nightwish, Dream Theater, Sonata Arctica, Rata Blanca (well pretty much all that is progresive, symphonic and power metal apeals to me except for ******* Rhapsody and other recent commercial bands ). Also Queen and some classical. But i like some other bands that don't fit the category, except for pop and other kind of country music of the zone.
I dont know man, I would say Blink182 and Greenday were Pop...
I also think of Greenday and Blink182 etc. as Pop.

My favourite music is Rap and Hip Hop
What has this to do with music? ~ ~D
I also think of Greenday and Blink182 etc. as Pop.
Blink yeah, Greenday is revival punk that sold its soul...dirty (*$#&%)(@#^*s.
Just about everything, it comes out to I listen to far too much music, Against Me!, Crass, Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers, The Refreshments, Dream Theater, The Rammones, The Clash, Mellancamp, Petty, Steve Earle, Townes Van Zandt, Guthrie, Violent Femmes, Meat Puppets, Hooker, Hendrix, Waters, Cray, Johnson, King(all of em), Falcon Five-O, Drive-By Truckers, Dead Kennedys, Dave Van Ronk, Bottle Rockets, Dylan, Black Flag, Beatles, Apartment 26, and those are just the bands you may have heard of.
I listen to metal - all forms of metal - and some rock thrown in.
From power metal bands like Blind Guardian, Hammerfall, Dragonforce and Rhapsody to death metal bands like Arch Enemy, In Flames, Children of Bodom and Meshuggah. Thrash metal bands like Slayer, Pantera and Trivium to classic heavy metal like Iron Maiden, Metallica, Black Sabbath and Black Label Society. I listen to pretty much any metal band, even progressive ones like System of a Down and Goth bands like Avenged Sevenfold and Nightwish...
As for rock I love Pink Floyd, Aerosmith, AC/DC and Tenacious D among others.

I don't really see what people have against Greenday myself. Its all right if you like that sort of thing.
For me, basically, metal. The last album I bought was Hammerfall's latest offering, very good. Not that into thrash/death metal, I've got some stuff by, say Ragnarok or Cradle of Filth, but its good riffs ruined by some talentless moron screaming on top of it IMHO. They should release instrumental albums.
Some goth is OK, eg Sisters of Mercy.
In more reflective moments, anything with good guitars. Hendrix, Joe Satriani, that sort of stuff.
The Blind King of Bohemia

I listen to alot of metal and rock but also alot of Soul and Irish Folk thrown in as well.

Modern music is rubbish.
Give me some Iron Maiden, Metallica, Guns 'n' Roses, Stone Temple Pilots...
I wish someone would strangle these 17 year old bleached blonde pretty boys who pretend to know how to play instruments or be rock n roll. When was the last time McFly smashed up a hotel room? It's always priceless when these plastic package groups get bottled off the stage at festivals, especially when the bottles are full of yellow water. 50 cent springs to mind...
Velvet Revolver are the best new band, because they are made up of older good band members.
French electronica, like air and daft punk (as popular examples)
prog rock (liquid tension, mogwai, the mars volta?, the tea party)
Rock (tool, a perfect circle, melvins, at the drive in. alot of the classics too, like pink floyd, led zeppelin, dire straits...)
Grunge (soundgarden, pearl jam, placebo?, smashing pumpkins, something for kate,)
i absolutely hate rap, with such a passion thats it hurts.
thanks,
dizzy

Nice list Big_John.
Ah, Green Day and the like. Hardly punk anymore, at best it's pretty standard rock with mediocre instrumentals. Still, my sister loves it and I must admit that when going along with my sister and some of her friends (to keep an eye on them, so paid by parents ~D) to Green Day it was sorta fun in a big teenage mosh kind of way.

I like Greenday, but and all the modern rock/metal/punk stuff
But the oldies still rock harder than anything

The old greenday is good none of their new stuff it just sucks, My favourites Clapton Lynrd Skynard (sp?), Guns and Roses, Madien, Billy Idol(he kicks ass), The D(also known as Tencacious D), Simon and Garfunkel, Bloc Party, Oasis, Stone Roses, The Beatles, The Kinks, Elton John........., the list goes on. Ill listen to anything really except Rap and Hip Hop now thats just pathetic. They think there gansters, but their just pathetic.

The Band of the Coldstream Guards is like, so totally awesome man! It rocks! I have posters of them all over my room! ~;) ~D ~D
I see nobody else enjoys the best music (which indeed is Rap and Hip Hop) then?

Rap and Hip Hop were good when the artists actually knew what they were talking about. Now they're just a bunch of fake pre-packaged for sale to teens with too much money on their hands bunch of phonies who perpetuate a negative African-American stereotype.

I despise it infact, long live rock and roll!!!!

I agree with you about some of the new wannabe rappers that are just made for teens, and I don't like them.
However their are numerous very decent rappers and I prefer a lot of the old tunes. My favourite rappers are 2pac, Dr.Dre and Nas among others, but I think rappers such as Eminem are just ridicoulous and I do deteste him.
Al Khalifah
08-22-2005, 13:26
I'd agree with 2Pac, but unfortunately he is no longer with us. Dr Dre was good back in the day too. I just think the genre has saturated itself somewhat and it's overwhelming success has made the very message of the music itself somewhat ironic.
Would you agree that the likes of 50 cent and Usher are just a total embarrasment?

the clash
joy division
Bikstok Røgsystem (danish reggae)
Johnny Cash
Bob Dylan
Neil Young
Lou Reed
Dj Shadow
The Streets
The Specials
Soft Cell
Jethro Tull
Iggy Pop
David Bowie
Bad Religion
New Order
Sex Pistols
Radiohead
Bob Marley
Peter Tosh
Happy Mondays
Kraftwerk
Linton Kwesi Johnson
The Flaming lips
The Ramones
In no particular order
I agree with you totally Al Khalifah, the rap as of late seems to have disintergrated into something it shouldn't be.
As you say 2pac  and some other heroes and icons of rap are no longer with us and he is a true legend but even though he is not with us the record companies are still making money out of him by releasing his tracks (Ghetto Gospel) which I think is a mockery.
But yes I do agree with you that Usher and 50 Cent are an embarresment to rap.

Wu-Tang Clan's good, and I usually enjoy Eminem (though mainly because of the production quality), old Dr. Dre, and 2Pac. I rather like good freestyling, particularly if it's done well over drum 'n bass.
Ever tried Ratatat? It's pretty much hip-hop without vocals, and it's ace.
Freestyling is amazing mate ~
No I havn't tried Ratatat but thanks I'll have to try it sometime.

Ah, I still have fond memories of Daphne and Celeste being booked to "play" Reading about five years ago.
You have NEVER seen such bottling. Truly impressive. I don't know if the Persian arrows at Thermopylae really did block out the sun but I am quite sure our bottles did. They got through two songs and legged it. It took them the rest of the time they were supposed to have been "singing" to clear the bottles off the stage.
The Good Charlottes last year, or maybe it was the year before, was also impressive, although they did manage to finish their set, hats off to them. Unlike D and C I wasn't quite sure what they had done to earn the crowds rage, (other than be a bit rubbish,) not that that stopped me joining in, obviously.

Ha Ha, reminds me of how Linkin Park were savaged at a Metallica concert I was at a few years ago. They even pleaded with the massive crowd to just let them finnish their set and that they couldnt wait to see Metallica either, to which they were met with the predictable rain of bottles. The drummer made a fatal mistake of getting angry when he got hit in the head, he threw the bottle back into the crowd, as in aggressively, and got absolutely pelted! ~D
It was so funny, it nearly made their set bearable... Nearly.

Ah, same thing happened at Leeds. It was sick and wrong, but necessary. Festival crowds know what we like and we speak with our bottles.

Its just very direct feedback! ~D
Mostly Extreme Metal - Black, Death, Industrial and Folk. A few other not-so-extreme bands. Also, lately I've been getting into grindier and grindier albums. There's too much death metal to list, but I listen to a lot of Cryptopsy, Nile, Nunslaughter and the like. As far as black metal goes, my favourite act is Immortal, but I also like 1349 and early Satyricon, Gorgoroth and Enslaved, to name a few. My favourite Industrial Metal band is Tidfall, without question. As for Folk Metal, I'm really into Skyforger, Waylander, Belinus and Korpiklaani. Finntroll's first two albums are also great.
Beyond metal, I listen to this and that, but there's a pretty good chunk of techno in there. I just got a Fischerspooner album, and before that, Neophyte. Kraftwerk also kicks ass.
Plain folk is good too, as well as folk crossovers. The Pogues, anyone?

Not including guitar blues (there's too many blues artists to list):
Pink Floyd, The Doors, Jefferson Airplane, Jimi Hendrix, Iron Butterfly, Santana,...
I think you get the point.
(Damn- can't find a smilie with a bong.)
Oddly enough, I also enjoy Wagner and Gorillaz... not sure why.

I'm tellin anyone who thinks modern music sucks to check out Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers (www.azpeacemakes.com) there is hope left for music, these guys rock hard especially live. Every show they play like they got something to prove and their music is good old fashioned loud bar room rock.

OMG to think that someone in my own clan thinks old music sucks is horrid lol, old music is by far the best todays music is a joke most artists have to sing a song they didnt write, its a joke they cant make there own songs and the ones they do make are aboultley s*** :furious3:
Craterus
08-23-2005, 21:37
So those who have no talent for writing should not use their talent for singing? If you're given a gift, you should use it! If they can't write their own songs, then they have to work around it. Have you ever tried to write a song? Not a crap rhyme, but a song that could get somewhere in the charts? It's pretty difficult.
