I respect the coming of the new game, and I will buy it simply because the CA's battle engine is the most accurate and fun representation of open warfare out there. But I am at heart, as I know many others who play the game are as well, a japanophile. And we know that no matter how amazing MTW is, the expertly designed fudal japanese theme is going to be sorely missed. That's not to mention the personal glee of sending Ninjas and Geishas to dispose of your enemies either.
To me the answer is simple, an official Shogun mod for the MTW engine. Changing the battle engine will be the easiest part. Some new maps, some new sprites and stats, just port over the soundFXs if you want, and that's it. The front end part of the single player game will be a bit more work. Graphics, portaits, menus mebbe some new music. The overall map of Japan could stay the same actually. Then you'd just have to re-implement the Ninja/Geisha stuff. Sounds like very little work to make gobs of cash. Say a $20 - $29 addon? Oh yeah, bring it on.

perhaps some bright spark here may yet figure out a fan based expansion of this sort,
we will have to wait and see,
i still don't have a copy of the game yet,
another week here they tell me,
so i really can't comment much on what can and cannot be changed

i dont really see CA doing this as it would be a bit... pointless. in my opinion, and if they were to charge for it, then they probably wouldnt get many people buying it.

However i can forsee a team of fans doing it.

map's ye looks "easy", stats, ye no problem
spites ye you only have to draw about
20 low res sprites 12 times and then do
the same with the high res bif .
Oh yes and the weapons
and write the actionspages
and write the weapons and shields txt
that's all, if I forgot something which
I probably did forgive me ,as it is so
easy.lol
I'd do it myself only for this and
mostly because I want something new.
So I think it would better if they
could use animations that wern't such
a pain in the hole to edit or give
us a package to do it .
By the time we finish our roman mod
I will probabley go saine.
