Konnichiwa,

I found fakesrv2.zip in the uploaddirectory this morning. I don't know who made it, but it surely is a very nice tool. No more frustration when the STW server is down, you can always play with your friends. It works with both STW and STW WE/MI.

Setting it up is not a problem at all, chatting works fine. It's also possible to host a game, but it's impossible for potential joiners to see the game. Yuuki told me that it must be possible for players to ping each other. It's at least required to enable a UDP port when you want to see games (a bad configured firewall shows this).

Here's the info:
Opening TCP 8793 (old stw) and TCP 8797 will allow you to login online, chat and receive news. The game port is UDP 18321

I'm not sure that it is about the UDP port, but joining games doesn't work yet.

I hope it will be possible to update this nice tool. It can be uploaded with the same uploadtool. If you need assistence to test, just tell me.

Konnichiwa Terazawa sama,

I won't post it as it doesn't work. I don't know who made it, so I post the feedback and request to improve the tool here.

Thanks for your reply, TosaInu.

I try to write this little program by watching the communications between the real server and the game. I found the server just send the ip who hosts the game to all players in the same room. And I did write such code to simulate this function.

I must say it's really hard to find such a bug without online tesing. I think I need at least one pc running "fakesrv2", one player host a game in "fakesrv2",and then let me record the communications between the " fakesrv" and the other joiner (that's me). At present, I can't find the second pc to host the game for me. But I will keep trying to find where the bug is...

I rewrote some code for the hosting function.
But I don't know if it can solve the hosting problem. Anyway, I have put this new one on the upload section. Check it out and tell me if it works. Thanks...

ps: I think my strange English might give you some clue about the creator. LOL.

Konnichiwa RSW san,

It works now. But the person who hosts the server can't host or join games.

Then Yuuki changed the line
ChatserverIPAddress = localhost to
ChatserverIPAddress = 64.60.430.234
(IP changed due to privacy) and he could run the server and join and host.

Private and public chat works ok, #afk works, but #ignore doesn't.

Comp games don't work as you're not linked to the database anymore.

Great work RSW san.

Please change the readme
ChatserverIPAddress = localhost to
ChatserverIPAddress = enter the host IP here.

Thanks for your help, guys. I am very glad that the hosting works. It's the main reason why I want to write the program. Now, I can relax for a while. lol..

1)I will change the readme.

2)#afk never works, you get a message only.
#ignore, I will try to know how it works and add this function if possible.

3)I didn't get any data about what comp games send back to the sever at so far. I think it's possible to make a different "honour system", but anyone here needs a "honour system" ?

4)Maybe I can add a special option to kick someone out from the server, that's more evil than #ignore. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Konnichiwa RSW san,

1. The readme should be changed.
2. Not really relevant, as this tool will be most likely be used with real friends.
3. You'll need a database for that. I'm not the person to argue for that as I don't care about comp.
4. In the long term, this could be a useful option. Perhaps an IP banlist?

Really RSW san, this tool is more than we could ever have hoped for.

the common English phrase you seek, Grizz, is "We are forever in your gratitude." or "We will be forever grateful."

Of course, you could say "Great work. As ever, we are in your gratitude." and it would make sense.

Guys, many thanks for your encouragement.

To tootee:
From my knowledge so far, the Gamespy is a commercial product. There are some secrets behind the service they provide.I can't say what I can do in the future before I really get the game. But I can say the gamespy might provide a better service than EA's. And I do hope we can get a better server for MTW. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Greetings TosaInu

We tried the fakeserver Friday evening. I was able to set up as server but you were unable to see public chat.
I have tried it again tonight and as far as to host a battle.
Every thing seems OK to me as far as this. I have changed the host number and chatserver port number each time as required.
Can't understand why public chat can't be seen. Can you help please........Jochi Khan

are you using any firewall software at all?
this may cause problems,

each firewall is different,
HOWEVER
the best option is to log on to TosaServer,

first you download this file: (doesnt matter where u save it i think)
http://www.totalwar.org/maps/tools/ServerSwapper.exe

Then u run this file - it asks you to point to a folder to install into - i installed into this 1:

D:\Games\Total War\Mongol Invasion

then - because i have windows XP - i had to run the program "Choice" which I found in a folder called Choicecom loated here on my computer:

D:\Games\Total War\Mongol Invasion\Choicecom

This apparently allows bat files to be run with XP (necessary as the serverswap program is a bat file)

Then I ran STWServer.bat (which is located where you pointed the serverswap to install to)
This opens a little dos window with 3 options, press b to point to the fake server (or press a to point to ea servers).
then press x to exit.

Now u can run shoggy and log on to whichever server u last got stwserver to point to.

Job done. any probs dont ask me

Firewall is disabled before playing STW because I have been given to understand that it doesn't like firewalls.
The reason for setting up a server is for individual play because there are times and will be when TosaServer is not up. Have experienced this tonight and last night.
It is also to ensure that I am able to operate Fakeserver as an option.
Some ppl still can't get it to work. No offence intended. Been only too glad of all the advice and help I have received from members of the Org........Jochi Khan

My clanm8 Gaijin and I set it up after abt 30 mins of hopping from thread to thread and site to site and played a couple games. I ran the fakeserver program and we both hosted games. I sent a copy of my internet.cfg to him over MSN and it ran beautiful. I am in the U.S. and he is in the U.K. by the way. This IS more than we could have ever hoped for.

I Need a little more detail please,

quick check list

are you behind a hardware firewall?
- ie a PC running internet share that you connect to through a hub or directly?
This is a hardware firewall,
you can't host games from behind a hardware firewall unless you set the sharing program to allow it.

are the people trying to connect to you changing their config's to match your IP and port numbers?

have you tried connecting to THEIR PC's, while they run FakeSever?

No hardware firewall, running my own home pc.
Only tried two persons so far to connect.
Tosa couldn't see public chat, I didn't try the.. host game.. so wasn't sure if it worked any further. Orda kept getting.. failed to connect.. Haven't tried to connect to his pc yet because he is having difficulty running FakeServer. Am I right to say that the person trying to connect to my server has to change the IP and Listen Port numbers to match mine? This is how I understand it to be. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/frown.gif http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/frown.gif Please correct me if I am wrong http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif Will try to connect with Orda Khan again tonight.
