It's only a small thing & was simple to do, but i've modded the crusader build/unit files so all the catholic factions can now crusade, would anybody be interested in this?

Target said he uploaded prods in excel
that work with the game they will be easier
to edit.I have looked for them but I think
barroca is still playing the game as he only
got it about 18hours ago the nutrients should
ware off soon I hope and he will sort it.

MOdding the files is the easy part, it's interpreting them in wordpad that took me the most time! I didnt even know you could open them in excel & get decent formatting until after i'd done the mod (just as well as cant seem to mod from excel, & that would probably have put me off trying- I have very little tech knowledge!!!)
So anyway i opened the build & unit files in wordpad, having no wordwrap is almost essential for this if you want to see whats going on!
The things that needed changing were who could build chapter houses and who got which crusader orders.
Each unit and building has a descriptor for what cultures & what factions can build them.
I made the chapter house buildable by all catholics by removing the faction descriptors "{ ARAGONESE, ENGLISH, FRENCH, GERMAN_HRE, ITALIAN, SPANISH }" so that it became a building type available to all catholics, crude but it seemed to work!
The crusading units were not quite so simple, i had to find them in the units file list, find the entry that refered to which factions could build them and add in the other factions i wanted to produce them.
This descriptor comes after the combat stats, & soon after an entry that all units have which says "own_unit_tooltip1, own_unit_tooltip2, other_unit_tooltip1, other_unit_tooltip2".
e.g. For the highland clansmen (the first on the list) this entry says NO_FACTION SCOTLAND, but they all either have this, ALL_FACTIONS, a single faction name or a list of faction names seperated from each other by commas and bounded by "", these "" seem important for units that multiple factions can build!
Is that enough detail for you? hope so without it being too patronising! As i've already said im not a techy so ive had to explain what i did in the most basic terms, still i hope this helps your modding efforts!

I noticed that for the Chapter House you've simply just removed all the faction names from the Faction Association (column T). Is taht the only mod you made to the buildings file?
FOr the units file, i'm assuming you simply added the abilty for the various factions to build their respective crusader type units? Knights and Fanatics?!

Again, yep! Didnt touch the fanatics line at all though, the list you see there is the original, but for the 'order foot soldiers' and specific Order troops thats exactly what i did! http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Yep, totally understand now what you've done now...

It didnt even occur to me to try and use Excel, until i read posts about people trying to do it that way. Having read those i tried it myself & found that excel modding doesnt work. No using wordpad was distinctly user unfriendly! but i sat down for a few hours while doing an all nighter last week and worked it out. I was originally just looking for unit/region info for my Doomsday book, but ended up figuring out most of what was going on.
