I’m having problems with my STW WE. I recently re-installed STW after doing a system restore on my computer. But everytime I go to the menu or doing a movie event in the campaign game, the game screen flickers like this

Does anybody here know how I can fix it? It’s really annoying. The GIF animation I made isn’t as annoying as what’s actually happening in the game. I tried unistalling and installing all the old drivers for my video card from Nvidia website to see if it can be fixed. The problem is still the same. I tried uninstalling the game itself as well but it’s still happening. My system specs are P4 1.6 Ghz, Geforce FX 5200, 512MB DDR SDRAM, and OS Windows XP Home. This has not happened to me before when I first bought the game back in 2002. It’s only recently this year that it’s been happening. ~ Thanks.

I have the exact same problem as you, and it's been more recent for me too - it's probably something to do with NVidia's new video drivers or something - I used to have a GeForce MX440 - which was fine, untill fairly recently (probably after updating the driver)

Im running a Celeron 2.0GHz, Geforce FX6200, 256MB DDR SDRAM, and OS Windows XP Home. I've recently bought the GeForce FX6200 - and I'm having the same problem. My theory is NVidia's new drivers, it's all I can think of.

Don't know about this problem. I have some flickering sometimes too, but not exactly the same one and not all the time.

one thing you can try is using Alt-Tab to go back to windows. then go back to shogun and see if it's still like this. but I doubt that will solve it for you.

best thing to do is posting the same information in our tech forum, the apothecary.

I hope you solve it! ~:)

ps1: welcome to the .org Ninjak!!

~:) Cheers! Made it couple of days ago, was quite pleased since it's my 1st attempt at a signature...

Anyways, thanks for the pointer drisos - but it still hasn't solved the problem, Shogun wasnt blocked by the Firewall - but I deleted it and re-entered it to be unblocked, but still it doesn't fix things... :computer:

In-game's fine though, so it doesn't bother me too much.

Yes indeed. so no reason for real worries. (I couldn't run shogun for months, that was bad you know.)

Well, I just fixed it. It was an anti-spyware program I had that was causing the problem called “spywaregaurd”. I originally uninstalled the program because I couldn’t get any live updates from it not because of what was going in STW. I have Spybot S & D, Adaware, Spyblaster, and CoolWebSearch Shredder that are way better programs than Spywaregaurd. When I played the game after uninstalling that “spywaregaurd”, there was no more flicker effects again. However, I was using an older driver for my nvidia FX card 45.xx something after I fixed it. I updated my drivers with a 56.xx driver (because I needed it for other games I play) and the flicker still happens when I press the volume but it doesn’t happen randomly like before when I had spywaregaurd installed. I won’t press the volume key while the menu screen is on. So if you guys have this problem, check for anti-spyware utilities that might cause this problem. Uninstall any anti-spyware programs you have individually then play the game to see if it happens. If it’s still happening, then re-install the program and uninstall the next one from the taskbar. If the flicker effect in the menu screen no longer happens then that anti-spyware program was the problem.
Does anybody here know if this game plays well in PCI-E Geforce 6800ultra or ATI 850XT? I know the Geforce 68xx and 78xx series uses the same drivers as the old FX cards. But does it cause the same type of flickering? If it does then I might get ATI 850XT even though 6800 and 7800 received editor's choice from PC Gamer and Computer World Gamer magazines. Also, if I use windows 2000 will that flicker effect still happen? I’m building a new AMD 64 rig but I’m thinking about using Windows 2000 to play some old games like Grand Prix Legend, Rowan’s Battle of Britain, Micropose’s B-17 II, and Jane’s USAF. I'm tired of Windows XP  and all its incompatablities with old games and security holes.

More help on this:

When black blocks are flickering on your screen, move your cursor over it. You will see that the cursor will 'clean' the screen. where you move it, the black disappears. however atb+tab works better, because then all is gone at once.~:)
