I never mod before. Well except some starting money / army composition in desc_strat file. Suddenly in my free time I decided to change something in Roma 5.5 because I don't like the peasant look in Roman townguard/watch whatever the name. I wanted town watch/guard to have javelin like equiptment with gladius so I don't have to have many types of unit for garrisoning duty. Here's what I do :

1. Change the export_description_unit (change photo to hastati like merc - forgot the name) also in the edu_info

2. Change the desc in desc_strat (copy the desc of the 'merc')

3. Change the desc_battle ? Concerning sprites etc

4. Save

When I play / start a new campaign it CTD. I forgot to do show_err so I don't know where my fault lies. Any idea ? Actually I follow the 'beginner mod' tutorial from .org . Anyway any comment where my fault lies ? Or else someone more experience in mod can help me. Please. Step-by-step if possible.

Thanks in advance.

Can you post the actual code changes you made? It's very hard to tell if you made a syntax error without it.

Thanks for the reply. I will when I go back home after work. Hope I finish it somewhere. Actually I use your tutorial of adding a unit as a basis. Only thing is I just change an existing unit into something different but use the same name. That's all. To summarise changing a peasant like town guard in Roma mod to hastati like unit with pilum & sword (only more weaker)

yES... yES.. i DID IT... Well, 90% done actually. I still had that peasant black image in HUD , but when I right click on it it shows my changes. I didn't do the no 4 in ur toturial. Didn't quite understand how to do it.

Thanks anyway. Didn't matter anymore cause I now play RTR 6.0. Anyway it's good practice.

Cheers...
