View Full Version : Posting privileges and lack of information about them

The general FAQ could really do with being updated. It contains misleading information relating to facilities available to new members.

I understand from scanning other threads in this forum that, as a new ("Junior") member, I cannot edit my own posts or attach images to them. I also find that there are forums within which I cannot post at all and I assume these restrictions are for the same reason.

None of this information is communicated in the FAQ. Indeed the FAQ states that these actions (editing and attaching) are possible upon registration. In fact, I am unable to find any guidance that outlines the post count thresholds that activate these options.

I also find these restrictions tiresome. I would like to be able to post a new modding tutorial concerning an area that is not well covered, but I appear to be unable to do so.

I do not understand the relevance of post count in determining the value of members and hence the allocation of forum "privileges". I propose that this is an unfortunate system which unnecessarily hinders potentially valuable contributions from new or occasional posters.

Right'o. Some of my comments are unfounded since I now understand that post count is not a consideration in promotion to "member" level.

My complaint about the FAQ was related to this inaccurate one (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/faq.php?), which is more visible than this accurate one (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=45416). ~:)

I am still put out that I must wait until being selected for membership before I can contribute the tutorial I have created.

Hello Nigedo,

Welcome. You're right about that.

At the very bottom of each forum is also a small box including posting rules per member. I'm not too happy with its position nor the completeness, but it contains actual info for that forum about posting new threads, posting replies, posting attachments and editing your posts.

I guess you're trying to post in the Guides or Ludus Magna forum? Perhaps you can submit your request, together with an example bit to a moderator of the forum. Members can't start new topics in the Guides forum too, that's harsh, but the reasoning is that we try to keep the Guides forum ordered and lean to allow easy access of information.

Thanks for the welcome TosaInu. ~:)

I'll bear in mind your submission suggestion, although I can probably just tag my own comments and onto the end of an existing tutorial, since I can post replies.

You do have a point about the vBulletin FAQ, which is given some prominence but is largely still the default FAQ that comes with vBulletin. There is a concern that newer members (and some older members for that matter) are unaware of the informational threads contained in the Entrance Hall, as these days many Members skip right on past the forum.

I guess one solution would be to add a link to the Guild FAQ (the accurate one) next to the vBulletin FAQ on the Nav Bar. Not replace it though: the vBulletin FAQ still has some info I've yet to include in the Guild FAQ. Although maybe I should work on that... ~:)

As for modding tutorials, you should be able to post threads in the Scriptorium (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=77) (the RTW modding guides and tutorials forum), although not in its two subforums. If your tutorial relates to Campaigns & Maps or Buildings & Units, you could post in the Scriptorium (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=77) proper and ask the forum staff to move it to the appropriate forum for you.
