View Full Version : Enough Already with the Katrina Threads

The members of the Org need to find one place for all of their Katrina Issues. I am getting really tired of seeing fifteen or twenty different threads that all are saying the same thing:
"Katrina was Bush's fault."
"No, it was the failure of a Bureaucracy."
"You just say that because you're a conservative."
You just say that because you're a lefty."
etc., etc., etc....
It needs to stop.

Its a huge disaster in a country where many of the posters who visit the backroom live.
They are all realatively well labeled, you dont have to click them. Nobody's got a gun to your head.

True, but they are crowding uo the backroom like an angry mob. It's irritating.

It seems overflooded, yes, but most of the threads are of different "pieces of the big picture." Some threads are basic questions (Franconicus'), some political - this includes criticism of the gov/gov people threads, and at least one intended for purposes of expressing gratitude/delivering good news.
Therefore you should tolerate that. In fact, you just added another Katrina-related thread to the Backroom.

This is a big problem I have with the backroom in general.
On any given day you will see threads entitled:
"I just changed my mind about abortion! Yes RIGHT NOW!!"
"Third Trimester Abortions: WWJD?"
"What do you think of abortion?! Right now!"
"Abortion: Rewls or sucks? YES! Right now!"
"Bush lied about WMDs!!!!!"
"WMDs found!!!!"
"Global Warming Debunked!"
"Global Warming Debunking Debunked!"
"Will the Conservatives STFU?!"
"All liberals: Go screw."
I mean, that could've been four threads (and I didn't even touch on the redundant Israel threads) but everyone has to start their own personal thread on every trite issue, sometimes multiple times in the same day.
I'm used to it by now, and I guess this board is just too big for catch all topics, but it was annoying for awhile.

Hmm, Proletariat, I must disagree that "everyone" (I know, I'm not taking this literally) seems to be posting threads after threads of these kinds. I'd rather say only some of the patrons practice it on a regular basis.
Edit: Actually, you should change "All liberals: go screw" to something like "This proves once again that all liberals are just whimpy American-hating liars." That would be closer to the truth.

Well, of course when I said everybody I didn't specifically mean the entire member list of the org. But it looks like you knew what I meant anyway.

I love a good off-color joke, but implying that Panzer in anyway condones Auschwitz is completely inaccurate, Aen.
Tsk, tsk. Touch a nerve? And here you are not over in the other thread defending PJ's assertion that Ann Coulter is a satirist, and Gawain saying that the left needs to lighten up and learn to take a joke? Now that truly is funny. ~D (Gasp) Are you saying I should be politically correct?

This thread has one valid point - there are quite a lot of "Katrina-threads" currently.
Of course due to the scale of what is happening this is understandable, however, it would be nice if anybody who is going to start a new thread about this topic would take the time to look at the existing threads to see whether it is really necessary to start a new thread.
I do not think that we need a new thread for each piece of news that comes up.
Over the next days the moderating staff will take the liberty to merge/close redundant threads to keep the Backroom from being cluttered - this does however not mean that Katrina and its implications could/should not be discussed
This thread is closed as the points have been made and it seems to derail into personal attacks of the left vs. right type.
