Played RtW before with patch 1.1 and 1.2. Had to un-install it. No problem. Re-installed RtW and patch 1.1. Still no problem. But when I install patch 1.2 it's telling "patch 1.2 is already installed". When I start RtW it's still release 1.1. Any idea? I cleaned the PC, run REGCLEAN etc for the register and it doesn't help.

Click this link (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=43162).

TosaInu has a link in it to a patched {1.2} .exe which you can use {assuming it still works} to simply replace the offending .exe .
The C/A doesn't mind as the only way to fix it otherwise is either monkey around in the Registry {which can screw things up if the user isn't a 54th level geek ;p} , wiping the harddrive or getting a new box , most of which customers would consider excessive requirements for simply playing a $50 computergame . ~D

Haha, I was experiecing the same difficulty yesterday. Updated to 1.2 so I could install RTR. Installed RTR and it wouldn't let me start a single player campaign (only Multiplayer was available) so I deleted my Rome folder, and restored it from a backup of the folder I had so thoughtfully made. Tried to update to 1.2 and of course it said it was already installed.

I went to the regristry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SOFTWARE>THE CREATIVE ASSEMBLY>ROME TOTAL WAR and found the regristry key VERSION, which was sat to 1.2. I changed it back to 1.0, rebooted, and attempted to re-install the patch.

It still wouldn't install.

So I did a system restore to the time previous to installing the patch. As I have my games on a drive that is set to system restore (it's not necessary, and I have since changed it), it made duplicated of folders where the data had changed (a folder called Data and one called Data(2) for instance). AFTER system restore, I deleted the whole folder, and again copied my backup 1.0 installation over from another backup drive. Installed the 1.2 patch with no problem.

So...use system restore to make it capable of RE-installing the 1.2 patch, but if your game folder is on a drive that is checked for system restore, it's going to complicate things. The 'restored' folders System Restore creates in your Rome Total War directory aren't complete, and only contain the files that have been changed.

Since you have been playing with a patched version for a while, system restore may not be the best option for you. I'll sit down later and try to figure out if there are any other version hooks in the regristry, becuase the one I found obviously isn't the one it's looking at.

Okay, I'm looking through the regristry now. Understand I have version 1.2 now, and will need someone to come into this thread and give us the values for version 1.0.

Here's the key(s) in question:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\Installer\Products\B6BB246AD1AC2414D84D13C8F3D38C43

Version 0x01000000 (16777216)

Looking further in this folder I find:

\Sourcelist\Media

DiskPrompt [1]

Hmmmm.......DiskPrompt. I do wonder...anywho, back on track:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Installer\Products\B6BB246AD1AC2414D84D13C8F3D38C43

Version 0x01000000 (16777216)

We need the hexkey for the previous version(s) (1.0) and you should be able to change it back by editing these keys. Anyone willing to have a look at their 1.0 installation?

Hey, I resemble that remark. :duel:
