I have used the unit creation guide from the forum, but i have a problem. My unit's picture on the bar at the bottom is a picture of the mouse arrow and when i start a battle it crashes. Any advice?

I'm no expert but, from what little I've picked up, there is more than one graphic file required for each unit type, for each of the purposes set out below. It's not entirely clear, from your post, which of these you are seeing replaced by a mouse cursor.

1) The graphic which appears on the army info panel and the unit training parchment, in the strategy map.
2) The background graphic on the unit's info parchment (optional, I think)
3) The unit selection icon, across the bottom of the tactical battle screen
4) The individual soldiers within a unit on the battlefield
5) Their shields and weapons
6) The dead body version of (5)

The graphics file-format for these files is either .LBM or .BIF.

If you've hand-painted your own icons in a paint program, simply changing the file extension (by file...rename) from .BMP or .JPG etc will not work. You need a file conversion utility to do this. See the forum downloads for where to find this.

It's likely that the root of the problem is something far more complex than this and apologies are due if you've followed the guides and already know the above stuff. Just trying to help.

Recently I have had this problem. Chances are, like me, you've forgotten or overlooked the .bif file in the Review_Panel\Units\ directory. When I overlooked this part in the sentence and just focused on the .bif file in the Info_Pics\Units\ directory, an arrow would appear for the unit in game on the bar, followed by a crash.
