View Full Version : PCI GFX card with an AGP to play MTW, guess what
I CAN PLAY CAMPAIGN MODE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For those who like me perfer Nvidia but can't play MTW, the fix will cost you around 20-30 dollars but it WORKS!!!!
Install a secondary PCI GFX card into your computer. Then, boot up with your AGP card and right click on Properties. Now you should see what I have posted as the picture, if so, just change your active display. I posted both desktop displays just to show that you can switch between the two by just switching the Monitor Cable.

The picture on the left is from my PCI ATI card and the one on the right is from my AGP card. I haven't figured out all the bugs but I will get them all figured out later.
For some reason, on the secondary display I lose either the Desktop Icons or the start menu. If you lose both, just use the Windows Key and "E" at the same time and "Find" your MTW directory and manually play.
Now I am playing MTW again. WOOT. Oh, the desktop picture is my girlfriend, she was just over and it makes her feel good to see herself - don't ask.

I Figured it out, you have to disable all other displays in the picture above and only leave the one running that will play MTW. Doing this, you can play this older game as well as possible other out there while being able in a few minutes to play the newer games with the newer GFX card.
All without taking apart the computer.

yeah, there is one person that post here that will probably be complaning that I keep writing about it but I was asked that if I even found a solution to the problem, I would write it. Well I did, so he can shut his hole.
If you post here, then odviously you like the game a great deal so its worth the extra $20 if you lost the ability to play like I did for a while.

So what PCI graphics card did you end up with for $20? How well does it play M-TW (screen rez, etc.)?

I got an ATI Radeon 9250 PCI card and it runs great with all the settings on the highest at 1024-768 resolution on the battlemap. I don't have much time right now so I will put up a screenshot later. I honestly think it looks great with no studdering.
If you want to look at eBay where I bought mine, just follow the link below. When I relooked up the prices, the cards are going for a little higher now than when I bought mine but still it works fine.

You mean this person? (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showpost.php?p=901483&postcount=46)
At the time you had EIGHT seperate threads, all with essentially the same information on the first page of the Main Hall - I've nothing against you documenting your issues. HOWEVER, it gets frustrating when you decide to use the forum for every update, no matter how minor.
For instance you had a thread detailing your conversation with the Activision support staff. Fair enough, well worth posting. However, then you decided that two or so days later, you would post a new thread detailing a further response, depsite the earlier thread being on the first page. Indeed you posted it into the existing thread as well. Why did you start a new thread? You allready had a perfectly good one going. Most of the other threads were in a similar vein - thus I became frustrated.
I'm not complaining about this thread - it's significant new information.

If the hole fits, shut it. It was a problem that close to half of us have experienced and I was working around a solution. Even IF someone doesn't have to use the newer drivers, most of the newer games require them so driver changing is a pain in the butt for everyday use. Now if you came up with a solution first, I would have been greatly appreciated - hell I would say your the man and sing praises in your honor. I felt that they were different issues and desired different threads but if you didn't like reading them or they annoyed you, THEN DON'T READ THEM!!! Thats all, sorry for wasting your time but I felt that I just possibly helped out several people with the research that I did on this.
Its been almost a week and NOT ONE SINGLE CRASH TO DESKTOP. I just wanted to let you all know that.
