Then its Ali all the way. Float like a butterfly and sting like a bee. He was the greatest thing to ever happen to boxing on top of his ability he was a real personality. Its a shame to see what he has been reduced to today.

Well , I agree with on that - the best of the bests !!! saw about 6 films on the guy , W H AT A G U Y !

You just like them because their Italian Kapo ~D Ali would hand them all their heads. He threw punches like a middleweight. He had the fastest hands and feet ever seen in a heay weight. He could take a punch with the best of them and punch with the best of them also. Most of all no one could mess with ther opponents heads like Ali could. Check out his fights before he was banned. No one can touch him. The guy didnt even get to fight in his prime.Or just look at the list of the men he fought and beat. Its like a boxing hall of fame in itself.

Muhammed Ali without a doubt. Although their are/were many great boxers out there.

Btw, did anyone watch that sort of reality boxing series with Sylvester Stallone called 'The Contender'. Brilliant programme. ~:cheers:

Big time. The two finalists from last years ultimate fighter put on one of the best fights Ive ever seen. I see spike tv is adding another marshal arts competition that looks even rougher than this.

Theres also a show from Japan called Bushido thats excellent.

Let me just make sure, ultimate fighting is the one where they spend most of the bout indulging in foreplay, looking like they're humping each other and stomping on each other's feet?

No theres plenty of boxing karate ju jitsu and any marshall art you care to name there. Its all legal. Some are won by knockouts and some by submission. Its a combined marshal arts sport and therefore show who is thwe Ultimate fighter. Id like to see the WBC champ try to fight one of these guys. They would tear him apart.

Whilst not denying the greatness of Ali, I do think people get sucked in by the hype. He was such an enormous personality outside the ring that people connect that with his boxing ability. Giving great interviews on Parkinson doesn't make you a better boxer (otherwise Billy Connoly would be world champ).

I would go for a young Tyson as well for British talent i always wondered what the hell happened to Prince Nassim Hammed. He had what it took to be a legend and just faded away, a shame man i loved his arrogance and speed in the ring.

I watched a couple of Ultimate fighter the othernight, very rough as you say Gawain. One shot to the face with this guys knee and the fight was over. Lights out. :fainting:

Very enjoyable though.

Who'ld win in a match between Ali and Tyson (in their prime respectavely)? Tyson
Never liked the guy, even back in the mid to late 80's but: whoa could that guy punch.
Best White boxers: Graciano and Schmeling. No saying where Schmeling could have gone with proper managing.

(Pound for pound there were numerous better fighters in the lower weightclasses though. That goes for most of the list.)

Ali, hands down. I have been watching his old fights on ESPN classic. His hands were so damn fast. Tyson would knock guys out if he could get inside on them. Ali was to fast for that to happen. Tyson would have try and, wap, wap, wap he get hit three time before he knew what was going on.

I was thinking about great boxers that never get any recognition (like the "gypsy" ones I mentioned) but what about all the Latin American boxers? They have a good reputation but you rarely hear about it in the USA and EU.

has there even been a great heavyweight fight since ali? the best fights are always in the lighter weight divisions. i have corrales-castillo saved on my computer, easily one of the greatest fights of all time. there will never be a heavyweight fight that could equal the war that was.

Btw , when asking who is the best swimmer . there is no categories , same for best tennis player , best sprinter etc' , so , there are no boxers that could handle the heavy's champions, they are the best no matter the reason . when a boxer of a lower category wants to be the best , he could always eat more...(it was done before) .

If you want to talk about great fights, how about those Chris Eubank v Nigel Benn fights from the 80s? Man, they were unbelievable fights. 2 champion boxers, with different styles and personalities who loathed each other.

Could not agree more MS, those Eubank and Benn fights were great. In fact the British middle weight divison in the late eighties and early nineties had some great matches, Eubank and Collins, the fights with Michael Watson, Eubank and Benn were great fights and rivals. A great shame what happened to Watson who never recovered in his match against Eubank which put him in a Coma and never the same man since

Is Bonabena, but he never beated Ali, I made a mistake, however Ali said that he was going to defeat him in the 8 round and the fight lasted more than that. Anyway there's a case of another gringo boxer that was defeated when threw out of the ring and the people rose him again (obviouly this can't be done), the boxer who technically won the fight was from here (Firpo) and is the only one (i think) from our country in the box hall of fame, and i believe that he's the only one that never won a title in the hall of fame too, maybe the yanks suffered from shame. And i think you're wrong the lighter players are faster and the world opinion is different from yours. It's not like in football that there're better categories, because this one is based on physical differences and not tactical or technical.

Theres no doubt that the lighter ranks are far more exciting. Especially middle and welter weights were they still have real knock out ability. Other than Ali no heavy weight comes close to being as exciting as say Sugar Ray Robbison or Hector Maco Comacho to name a few.
