View Full Version : Problems with Reconquista Mod
Greetings. Okay, I reinstalled MTW and MTW VI after having it uninstalled for over a year now. I updated all the official patches (including 2.01 patch) and installed the full 61MB Reconquista mod from this site (click here) (http://www.3ddownloads.com/totalwar/Hosted%20Mods/Celtiberos) that was posted in the reconquista stickey. I play a campaign as the Castillians and around 1142, the game crashes to the desktop. I thought it might be a glitch in a saved campaign game. So I went back a few years before 1142 like 1131 and 1132 as was suggested in the Reconquista thread. But it still crashed to the desktop. So, I decided to play a new campaign as the Castillians again and just now, in 1142, the game crashed to the desktop again! Also, I just recently checked the Historical Battles that the Reconquista team made for the game and there are no previews maps shown in the battle preview. It’s just an ocean. The tactical battle when I play it is alright though. However, the description of the history of the battles is in Spanish not English. I only know a few Spanish but I'm not a fluent Spanish speaker See:

Also, should the description of each faction in the campaign be described in game? All I get was unit description but no history explanation of each Reconquista faction like in the other regular campaigns.

Does anybody know how to fix all of this? Thanks for any response I get. :help:
Whoa, I didn't know it had a campaign mode. Last time I read it was mp only.

To get the text to appear in English within the game itself, you'd need to alter the descriptions within the modified files themselves but I'd suggest getting permission from the authors of this mod before doing that.
If you're content to just find out what the Spanish text is saying, then there is a way to do this without tinkering with any of the files, beyond finding out which files to examine and browsing their contents.
1) Pick a Spanish word from one of the screenies to use as a search term. Preferably one which contains no unusual accented characters.
2) Use the Windows XP search facility (Start|Search)
- click on 'All Files or Folders'
- in the slot for 'all or part of the filename', type *.txt
- insert your search term in the space, underneath, for 'text within file'
- start the search
3) If successful, double click on the document(s) which appear in the list, to open them. Ctrl-F for 'Find' and search for the term again.
4) You should find a block of Spanish text with the serach term within it. Click-drag to highlight the text, copy and paste it into a blank text document and save it for later reference. Use this again at step (6).
5) With the text still held in clipboard memory, use Google etc to locate a Spanish->English translation website which will allow you to translate whole paragraphs for no charge. Paste in the Spanish text and let it do its magic.
6) Copy and paste the results to the file you saved at (4).
The translation may not be 100% as the original authors would like it to be but the free online translation services aim to be able to translate entire web pages into other languages, so you should at least get the main gist of what's being said. Proper nouns (eg I see 'Constantinopla' in your screenie and names of historical people too) may give the translator a spot of digital indigestion.
Having the two versions side by side in the same file will enable you to tidy up the translation if any such errors occur.
The lack of descriptions for the factions suggests to me that the mod makers are still working on their historical research. It's interesting to know the background stuff but it's hardly essential for the running of the game and I can understand why they've not attempted to do these. Not yet, anyway.
Well, my main concern is what happens after the year 1142 or 1143 when it crashes to the desktop. That’s the only thing that’s annoying in an otherwise excellent mod. I can edit the faction and battle description into english or get a Spanish speaker to translate into english. That's no problem. But I would like the CTD after 1142 to be fixed. I had a large Castillian Army and an excellent sea lane trade going for me until it CTD in 1142 several times already. Thanks.
