Some of you may remember my last thread on this. Well, this one will now serve a good purpose, as Black and White 2 is officialy coming out on 7th October over here in Europe, which means good. Just look at it!

Believe it or not, they're all in-game screenshots. I love the last one, with the little kamikaze guy jumping off the wall.

From what i know, the minimum system requirements are what the average system requirements were for the original, which means alot of people should be able to buy this. It looks damn good!
Man I loved the original Black & White. This one looks great, can't wait.

God bless the game!
Err..wait. I'm supposed to be a God here...
Why, that poor Japanese village next to the Volcano is [very] unlucky, and I think the Japanese soldiers look really uncool. They should've made samurai troops like Greeks having hoplites. It's so unfair!
Otherwise, be prepare to believe...or burn!

The first one worked quite well, but it did lack a game (puzzles? collecting crap? come on..), and died for me in the third island.. But this thing, this could have something actual to play with.

I just did a bit of looking about before posting, and here they are: The Samurai!

From what I heard, this one wouldn't be as boring as BaW 1
how come most of those screenshots don't have any giant animals in them? for a game about making giant animals, that's a very bad sign
i heard part 1 of this series was a very bad game. hopefully part 2 won't suck too. i'll wait for the professional reviews to come out before getting hyped up about this one

Well, here's (http://www.lionhead.com/bw2/screenshots.html) the screenshots section of the official site. You'll see some giant animals, and even the fearsome Mighty Giant Cow.
Black and White was a great game, just a little flawed. It REALLY needed more computing power and better battles...

Did you know, but there are two versions of this coming out. You can get the bog standard one, or the special edition, which for a marginally higher price comes in a shinier box, 'The Making of' DVD and an extra creature, the Tiger. There's no point getting it though, as within a week or so the Tiger will be free for download on every website that would want to have it up for download. Same applies to 'The Making of' DVD.

Sorry, forgot to include this:
* Black&White 2 requires a 64MB video card with 1.1 Pixel Shader support. Supported video cards: NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti series, GeForce FX series, GeForce 6200 or greater; ATI Radeon 8500 or greater, ATI Radeon X300 or greater. DirectX 9.0c is included on this disc and may require the latest drivers for your video and sound card

Now that I think about it wouldn't fit... All the other animals are made humanoid, a velociraptor couldn't be made that way. But a Komodo Dragon could, think Bossk from Star Wars (the guy that stands on the edge of crewpit on the bridge of the Executor).

You should like this game, you should! It's just like a TW game when you do the battles, only difference being is that you pick up the enemy soldiers and throw them over the horizon, or set them all on fire as if by magic. Which it is.~;)
If it will be as good as promised, which I highly doubt from the experience of B&W1. Wasn't a bad game, hell no, but compared to what Peter Molyneux promised, it was a desaster.
Hope this one wont be that way...

I love EA's lack of brains. They thought it would be a good idea to make more money by making the most popular creature, the tiger, only available to those who pre-order, so obviously that way they would make profit right away. Once people pre-order, they are sent an email with a code inside and a link to a website where they can input the code. Well, it would appear that you can enter anything on that site e.g. 1234-1234-1234-1234 and it will work, allowing you to get the tiger! I've tried this, and i now have five tiger unlockers, just to show EA how stupid they really are. I'm not giving anyone the linkage though, or else i'll probably get an instant 5 point warning for allowing piracy. Oh well. I'd be surprised though. Talk of it is all over the official forums. Some people claim to have gotten 20.
And guess what? I didn't even pre-order! (or in the case of the UK, order the Collectors Edition)

I think B&W was a love it or hate it thing... I liked the god game elements and the interaction with the world but the whole tamagotchi thing with your animal, the training and all left me cold... And fustrated and bored, etc...
If there is a demo I will give it a blast, but I probably will not get it...
Mikeus Caesar
10-06-2005, 17:20
Unfortunately for you, there is no demo, but i suppose they've got a good reason - even a demo would give away too much of the story, ruining the game, and it would be a huge file, which would take forever to download, even for broadband users, like me.
On an unrelated matter, it comes out tomorrow!! And since i pre-ordered it, first class delivery from Amazon, that means when i get home from another boring day at school tomorrow, it'll be on my doorstep. I shall dance, and jump and sing!!
In fact, on second thoughts, i'll run upstairs and install it.
I liked being a god too, but I soon learned my pet only the tasks that I wanted done when I was not there. Such as putting out fires and generally just being a nice little help.
I loved going to war. Throwing fireballs into rival villages or grabbing a stray villager and send him flying across the village was sure fun. I really liked how you had to conjure up the magic... In fact it gave me an idea for an FPS/RPG as a magician.

It requires 3.5 GB i think. And i am currently very pissed off with Amazon, as i payed 3.60 for First Class Delivery so it would get here today, so what do they do? Dispatch it this morning. I might as well have gone Second Class, and am currently demanding a partial refund. Now i'm going to have to wait till tomorrow morning, and i can't wait that long!

10-09-2005, 00:01
It came today, at exactly 10:30. And guess what? It is amazing!! (before i carry on, i warn you, i'm an utter fanboy, thus i am completely biased to the game) It is amazing. I've never seen such realistic water, and the creature's are so damned cute when they're babies. The amount of detail is amazing. Some of it is actually quite difficult. Some people on the official forums moan about the creatures not being as good on this one, but i personally think they are great. They can do anything. And once you teach them some destructive miracles like fireball and lightning, and make them advanced soldiers, they're nearly unstoppable at fighting. Most people are moaning about it being bugged and always crashing, but i've been playing ever since i got it this morning up till now (midnight) and it hasn't crashed once. The only problem i do have is due to my lack of RAM, the ground texture around enemy towns is all black but the ground stays around their buildings, so it looks like they're floating in space.
More feedback later.

10-10-2005, 20:46
So how is the creature managment , still just as tedious as before , how is the interaction with the people - still as easy going as before ?
And how is the gameplay , interface and the such.
Also what are the major differnces with the original B&W ?
~
:balloon2:
Mikeus Caesar
10-11-2005, 16:58
Creature management is much easier than before, as it has little though bubbles saying what it's thinking. And people management is easier, as they are more self-sufficient, and building towns is easier now that they got rid of the damn scaffolds. But as good as it may be, i personally don't think it's as good as the original.
Screenshots coming soon.

10-11-2005, 18:07
Have you got any eperience with the combat mode, is it any good , are the battles fun and are there lot's of different units - with appropriate balance between them?
And why do you think B&W2 is less good than the original ?
:balloon2:
Mikeus Caesar
10-11-2005, 23:17
There are only 3 units for combat - Swordsman, Archers and Catapults. After all, BW2 isn't a full blown RTS. And i don't think it's as good as the original because....well....i don't know. I just don't feel as involved. It feels shallow. Anyway, here are screenshots, as i promised.
It would appear my files are too big. Give me a bit, and i'll host them, honest. They are great pictures. I have one of towers from walls floating along on their sides on lava flows from a volcano. Really cool.

All this talk about how both Fable and B&W2 are good ideas excecuted badly is making me quite worried about The Movies too. At least Molyneux doesn't seem to have the same level of involvement in that game...:help:
Mikeus, from the looks of that Lion you seem to be a bit Evil.
Is there a greater choice of Good vs. Evil this time? I remember that it was very hard to not go Good in B&W1.
Mikeus Caesar
10-13-2005, 16:19
Nah, i'm not evil. My lion was just a bit beat up in that one. The Japanese creature had beaten him in a fight twice. Anyway, here's a kick ass picture.
http://xs50.xs.to/pics/05414/HellOnEarth.PNG
Nice...
So when a creature loses now it doesn't sulk as before? That Lion certainly looks angry, very much in line with an Evil one (big claws and big mouth full of large teeth).
You didn't answer if it was easier to be Evil now...
What did you lose to? A cow?
That Wolf still looks sweet... And it shold be rather intelligent.

I lost to a tiger. And it is very easy to be evil, and difficult to be good. And the creature either sulks when he loses, or gets angrier and angrier until he runs out to the enemy creature and R.Y.N.O's it.
Sound ok so far and those screenies look awesome.
So, have you found any super cool features yet Mikeus?
Ok, if it is easier to be Evil I might pick it up... I hated that all the little missions were 'good'. There was little chance to be Evil that way, and of course being Evil was often costly (dead people and destroyed buildings). I found Evil to be very weak compared to Good.
While I still will play on as Good I really like the possibility to fall into Evilness.

What a frustrating game to play.
1) yeah it's easier to train your creature, but I'm finding it damn near impossible to do anything useful. Its like it has a 5 second attention span. Tell it to construct a building, it looks at it for a bit, then goes off to do something else. If you leash it to the building you want it to build it just sits there. The roles don't appear to have any effect either.
One of the maps has an objective to use the creature to build 35 houses. It took me about an hour of tedious clicking to get it to build 4 and that's with the advanced builder role upgrade. The main problem is that the villagers build the thing before the creature can stop picking it's nose.
2) The armies suck eggs. They're supposed to defend themselves but 50% of the time they just stand there and get slaughtered. To get them to attack the enemy when the units are engaged is almost impossible. The units also have no defensive capability, enemy units can just run straight through. It's like AOE or warcraft battles. They stand in a nice formation when marching, but when engaged it's just a random mess.
There is also no option to retrain your units. If you have a 100 man battalion and they get down to 20 men, you have to go and grab 80 men from your town and add them to the unit 1 by 1.
3) The order of buildings in the list that you pick them from changes almost every time you open it! You have to scroll back and forward through the whole list looking for the one you want every time! At least if you have an existing building of the same type you can just click and drag to make a new one. It needs sub categories. i.e. housing, military etc
That said, I did stay up to 4am playing it last night. Major time eater :)

1) That's the AI. Believe it or not, the creature for the first ten or so years of it's life, is like a human child. It has a short attention span, disobeys you and just wants to have fun. My creature is now 21, and does whatever i tell him to do.
2) Yes, the armies do suck eggs. But hey, it's better than nothing, isn't it?
3) The buidling menu does have sub-cats. Look in the bottom right corner, they're all there.
And yes, this game really does suck up your time. I started playing it at about 8PM last night (i think) and before i knew it, it was 1AM.

I've been reading a lot about this game to see if it was just over-hyped like the first one was.
The majority of fans have very serious issues with it, and think that part 1 is way better. On the official B&W 2 board they have a 50+ page thread of "what you dislike about the game" which is chock-full of very compelling detailed arguments of why it's not worth buying. ~
And the "what you like about the game" thread is less than half that long with almost all the posts in there saying nothing worthwhile at all other than "it has nice graphics"

I am a member of that board (currywurry), and if you must know, most of the people there are a very small minority, who have nothing better to do due to compatibility issues apart from whine. Most of the people who have been on that board for ages suddenly dissapeared around the time BW2 came out, and why? Because most people are busy playing the game. Just because a few whiny gits, who make up about 10% of the people who bought the game, have problems shouldn't dissuade you from getting it.
Anyway, it's not about making giant animals, silly.

The cities also look beautiful.

The artists have certainly done there jobs well~ That one review linked here gave it a 59% but gamespy and gamespot give it A's.
Mikeus Ceasar:I hope you don't mind if I ask some questions.
Is it easy to be good and have an army? I've read that the game doesn't really differentiate between offensive and defensive war. Also, I read that when your influence is higher some smaller villagers will come to join your city leaving their own city leaving it ripe for enemy conquest. Is it possible to anex other villagers without hitting your own goodness too much?
Also, how simple is combat? Do you ever have to worry about getting higher up than an enemy? It would be nice.
Hopefully (if I don't spend any money) I should be getting this next week. ~
Can't wait, looks absouloutly amazing.

NodachiSam, it is okay to be good and have a defensive army e.g. archers on walls and it is okay to go out and conquer enemy towns, just as long as you don't kill any villagers. The only prob is, once you're city is large enough to support an army, it's impressive enough to have won the game, so that sorta sucks...

I gave it a break for a few days, had a rethink, then did another couple islands.
Originally I was trying to do everything myself, like I would in a typical RTS. In this game though, it's more about getting the people and your creature to do the work for you. I'm finding it much less fustrating to play using this approach.
I also gave up trying to replenish armies by adding people to them and instead just make a new army and merge it with the old one.
I'm having much more fun with it now. :)
Not too sure about those min specs. I had 1Gb of ram and I've seen the usage get up to 1.4Gb which basically meant it slowed to a swap thrashing crawl.
3500+, 7800GTX, 2Gb ram and I get 35fps @ 1024x768 low details. I read that there is some kind of infinite loop problem with the AI that is killing the performance. I hope they patch that soon.

Sounds like a good way to play. Have you ever played Evil Genius? It is an awsome game despite some shortcommings, namely that Super Agents are irritatingly troublesome to the point of reducing actual gameplay to a glacial crawl. Anyways, in the game you run a base full of evil minions and you can only directly control yourself and have near full control of your henchmen to whom you can give a number of orders. They still have their own minds though and wander around instead of staying put as you'd like.
It looks awsome but I keep reading that BW2 has numerous bugs like that. *sigh*

Hmmm..I currently have 1 Gig of RAM, too, and it appears this would be a good time to add some more, then.

I'm not too happy right now....my gaming PC is out of action due to hardware conflict between the new wireless internet connection we installed and something in my computer, although it may be a problem with the chip. I nearly lost all my BW2 saved games as we decided to reinstall windows, but came upon the bright idea of putting it all onto my MP3 player. So until then, i can't play the greatness that is BW2. And i had some good pictures to show you all as well...

Video Cards come with pixel shader. Most recent ones made in the last 2-3 years come with at least PS 1.1. You're card must be pretty old...what is it?

it's an Nvidia GEForce4 MX440 - and i get the error message (this game requires...) when i try to run the game, so i figure it's the card.

Hm....your card must be old. Unfortunately, i'm no expert on Nvidia cards. For all i know, that could be extremely old or extremely new.

GeForce 440Mobile. Not a chance. I've been hit by the lack of pixel shader before, with Deus Ex 2, Thief 3, Pandora Tomorrow, etc. etc.
Sucks having a 2001/2 laptop.

pixel shading problems are highly annoying, had them with Deus Ex : invisible wars... never could get the game to work.
So it seemes like B&W2 has high system requirements...
does it run smoothly with all the settings turned to high ?

Picture time!
I have some interesting screenshots that may be of little interest to anyone. Most of these were achievable thanks to Gandof's v0.9 BW2 trainer.
I really like this picture, especially the silhouette of one of the people caught in the explosion.

A scene of innocence, disturbed.

A volcano explodes, as the main Japanese city is razed to the ground. In the end, all that was left were two badly damaged houses and a barracks.
http://xs54.xs.to/pics/05454/BWScreen0004.png
The main Japanese city is destroyed by the five volcanoes.
http://xs54.xs.to/pics/05454/BWScreen0005.png
The Valley of Death. This is actually a town, but multiple volcanoes utterly destroyed it, as you'll see. Unfortunately, these volcanoes only killed eight people, as the town had been bombarded by meteors beforehand, killing most of the population.
http://xs54.xs.to/pics/05454/BWScreen0007.png
A waterfall of Lava in the same town as the Valley of Death. You shall see where this is coming from in the next screenshot. And also, this thing may look small, but it's absolutely huge.
http://xs54.xs.to/pics/05454/BWScreen0008.png
The origin of the Lava waterfall. And you shall see that this gigantic monolith never disappeared, and neither did one of the other volcanoes, thus scarring the landscape pemanently.

A giant monolith. It won't go away!

Nice fireball... Looks very good, is it a cluster of fireballs or something? And is it a body I detect in the 'serene' picture?
You need a bracket for the Valley of Death picture...

The first picture is the meteor miracle. An unsuspecting group of 450 migrants just happened to be in the area when i noticed them. They payed the price for entering my territory. And in the serene picture, that is a body. It's one of the 450 migrants who had the unfortunate luck to have their body thrown the equivalent of mile across the landscape, into an abandoned village.
Valley of Death pic fixed.
