Hi all,

am following the guidelines from this site and trying to mod my campaign map. Not working at all and after much trial and error i have narrowed it down to the step where you have to delete the map.rwm file from rtw/data/world/maps/base.

even if i do this without touching anything else at all - ie/straight from a patched to 1.2 vanilla install, the game crashes to desktop. Am i right in thinking what it should be doing is creating a new map.rwm file each time it loads up a campaign? If i don't delete the map.rwm file and i alter the campaign map then it just uses the old map regions, even if i've saved over it cos its reading it from the map.rwm file i guess.

If i go back into the maps/base folder after the ctd the game has generated a new map.rwm file - it just must be flawed somehow?

Any ideas? The ctd occurs right as the campaign map should materialise - after all the loading screens. I get no error messages, even with -show_err running.

Arghhhhhhhhh

It might be caused by a *lot* of things.

I had this problem because :

I had too much errors in the desc_strat file (characters or cities being misplaced on the map)
Your name list is screwed up
You're playing with a roman faction though the senate target provinces aren't here (syracuse, dalmatia and liguria -don't remember the name of the settlements of these 2)
There's no latium/roma province/settlement.

ah but am not doing any of those things - am saying even if i do NOTHING from vanilla other than delete the map.rmw file (which it should regenerate each time you load up a campaign) it doesn't work....

I don't think the senat has to be there, but I'm fairly sure there must be a roma settlement.

There has to be a Latium province with a Rome settlement. About the Senate, maybe it has to be there at the start, but can be killed off via script (as METW does).

@Meneldil: the three first mission provinces have to be there, too? That´s good to know.

They have if you attempt to make the roman factions playable.
