View Full Version : Why are YOU excited about the Europa Barbarorum project?

1. The most historically accurate representation of the time period as is currently possible.
2. The vastly improved variety of units.
3. The intirguing (almost RPG style) trait system.
4. The complex advances in gameplay.
5. The new victory conditions.
6. The sheer artistic beauty of it all.
7. The history "extras" in text and supporting information.
8. The balance of units, I.E. no more "uber-unit super-stacks".
9. Other: You name it:

Pretty much everything as a whole. ~:)
The improvents are made on such a massive scale, that I must admit I can't pick any particular one. ~:)

i agree with 1pain1Duck, all of it as a whole. it is impossible for me to decide upon one thing. this is truly a masterpiece of the computer age. perhaps, in the far distant future, the names of khelvan and the other EB guys will be spoken with the same reverence of the likes of beethoven and shakespeare. i am quite confident of it, actually.

Well, are there any reasons not to be excited about EB, it's like a whole new game. From what I've seen, EB is going to be what R:TW should have been, that's what makes me excited about it. You have to respect the EB-teams efforts, truly astounding.

Poor Khelvan.
My condoleances if you want them. ~D
As for the mod, mainly everything as a whole. I like the artistic beauty, wide variety of units and historical accuracy very much. ~:)
All, except number 6 of the above. With my low end system I'll be happy if it runs at all.

The advances in the gameplay, mostly. All other things are surely important and will enhance my gaming pleasure, but all the neat tricks they've done as described in the features preview could be so great I can barely believe they're doing it ~:)

i voted for number 1
All of the above. A truly monumental amount of work has gone into this... I'm eagerly anticipating. I just hope my 56k can handle the download. This will be as has been often said, a whole new game. And the replay value is going to be astounding.

Because it's a challenge too. Trying to keep the Makedonians from capturing Athens is no easy feat. Every time I boot it up I groan and wonder how to try and keep from being driven out of mainland greece, so that I don't have to spend out the rest of my days in Rhodes or as an advisor in the employ of some Ptolemaic king. ~D

You think that's hard, try figuring out what is the best way to make an incursion into the Selekuid lands while keeping an eye out for your fellow Dahae, not to mention trying to keep your treasury afloat enough to have cool units. ~D

What's that you say, barbarian!? EB is indeed better than both sliced bread AND microwavable popcorn!

The accuracy. Although it pains me a bit that I won't get to see the lorica segmentata because of the accuracy, but hey, that's what the late period project's all about, eh?
Sheer artistic beauty seemed to capture it best. My only knowledge of EB is from salivating over faction previews. I am very impressed with the units, especially their historical accuracy, so perhaps I should have voted option (1) or (2). But a game could have variety and history but still be dull or unappealing. "Sheer artistic beauty" expresses my sentiments best.

I hate sliced bread. I like to grab an entire loaf and chow down, or cut off a piece with my trusty 9-inch fishing knife. (See, Steppe Merc- knives are the better utensil!) I would definitely say that EB is better than sliced bread.

Well if it's a real knife yeah, but I was thinking about a butter knife. ~;)

Eh, I don't know, microwave popcorn kicks ass. I suppose as long as there are movie theaters and you can make popcorn the old way (however you do that), it could be replaced...
I picked Historically Accuracy, but to be honest, the vastly improved variety of units is JUST as enticing to me

The fact that EB have got rid of all the 'barbarian skirmishers' and 'phalanx pikemen' units and replaced them with faction specific units and creating 17 factions that each have genuinely unique playing styles has to at least quadruple the fun on its own.
Add to that the fact that the units are historically accurate and 10 times prettier than anything CA have produced up till now, not to mention the scripting, traits and ancillaries, animations, formations......*takes deep breath*.... more competition, new factions, historical characters etcetcetc
*phew* Yeah, I'm looking forward to it a lot

I like the new variety of units etc.
The historical accuracy thing is a bonus too.
It's generally a what could have been for RTW.
And it gives DA the chance to do more polls and I know how much that warms his heart, aw bless.

I voted number one.
But in the end I'm really just infatuated with the Total War Genre. I haven't able to suspend my disbelief with the current state of RTW enough to play an enjoyable game. I'm expecting EB to allow me to do this.

I, like most everyone else here, am looking at the totality of this awesome accomplishment. However, I wanted to see what individuals' top reason was. For me, it is the historical accuracy. I am looking forward to seeing anything other than "warband" for the barbarian factions. Closely second to that is the gameplay advances. I mean, come on, you cannot look at the effort they have put into this area without blinking and rubbing your eyes in disbelief. The EB team could have just made visual changes, but they really turned up the heat. Traits is not far behind. Thanks to Malrubius (sic?) for joining the team!
Looking around at the Org and other TW forum sites, all you have to see is the thread count and the reply count to see just how popular this Mod is. 487 threads and close to 14,000 replies! That's almost double the total replies from all other Hosted Mods at the Org combined.
Thanks to the EB team, for their continued dedication to awesomeness and fantabulouserosity.

I voted number 7 simply because i had to pick one of them.It all seems so good that i feel like i am waiting for a new game and not a mod.I was particularly impressed when i saw the messages that the Parthians will recieve upon taking Susa and Babylon. This is just the kind of immersion into the time period i am looking for as i never feel as involved in RTW as i did with both the previous titles.

Because this mod is historically accurate. RTR disappointed me with their modding of the "eastern" factions, which seems to be given little attention in most of the mods. I'm glad that EB decided to give equal attention to every faction they include, and, better yet, they decided to make it as historically accurate as possible. I just like historically-based games to be historically accurate and playing such a game is exciting because it gives a sense that you're changing history. There's no excitement in playing a historically inaccurate game that was labeled to be based off of history. Frankly, I'm quite tired of using "eastern" horse archers with their costume looking like Muslim peasants and carrying simple self bows, which I think is annoying and historically inaccurate. I want to whoop a$$ with real steppe horsemen dressed in historically accurate steppe dress and wielding what should be the key to their firepower - the recurved composite bow. :charge:

yeah, that;s indeed a pitty. RTR seems to be most interested in Greeks and Romans. i think Bactria is meesed up, and all of the eastern factions+all barbarians are hardly touched.
but lets not turn in in that kind of thread.

I'm not trying to bash RTR. I thought RTR was an ok mod and was good in its own way; I'm just more excited and impressed with EB since, judging from the previews EB, unlike RTR, seems to stand true to its aims of historical accuracy, something which I'm in full agreement with.
Why can't I choose all options ~D
Guys, please refrain from comparisons to other mods; I know some of that is inevitable, but we really try to avoid that as much as possible here.
It is possible to cut out the "unlike mod X" or similar comments, and still make your points. We would prefer it if you do.

I voted 1, however, all of them have my vote. I really like the singular unified Roman faction. Now we can actually expand the Republic as it really happened. All of you guys should be celebrated for many a year; all this amazing work for free! And to think thar Rome: Total War cost $90 AUS dollars...........

Um... well, I have not been impressed so far, and I'm not holding my breath for CA. But we have decided as a team to wait until the game comes out and we find all the flaws until deciding one way or another.
edit:
Wait, do you mean EB on BI, or the EB team doing a BI era mod?
Other : the impressive amount of dedication put in the project. I long to see the result.
I voted for number 2, but I'm really quite concerned about things like alliances with independent states and the different forms of government.

I mean the EB team re-working BI such as they did with Vanilla RTW.
well..one way or another. I'm just hoping for a "product" in the end. And i'm hoping EB can make their current project work on BI, just for the functions.
a's far as a project for BI..there's "the fall of rome". on wich, iirc, some eb-members are working. and my guess is that as soon as EB hits the streets many, many mods will use stuff from it. so i guess EB will certainly have a part II.
...well gues, guess..more like "hope"
