*This may disturb some people*
Have you have heard of the boy who was taking an exam and got so stressed and worried that he stuck a pencil up each nostril and head-butted the table, thus driving the pencils into his brain and killing him.
When ever I hear about it, it is always in another school/college a few years ago.
Is it an urban myth or did it happen?

Ever hear the one of the girl who was bet she could not swallow a sausage whole? she choked to death on it. That one's actually true according to a friend of mine who said it happened in his cafeteria.

What kind of 'sausage' was it? ~;)

Of indeterminate veracity, according to snopes. So, I'd say yes.

Do either of you live in the north west of England/north of Wales.
I wounder if it is a local myth or a national myth.

I think it's a lot more widespread than that. I actually heard it in the north of Scotland.

Nr Southampton. Or Basingstoke, if you know the area. ~;)
I think the "myth" is national.

I think the "myth" is national.
It would seem so, maybe it is international.
I would if it actually happened/it is based on real events.

Before this is locked- I'm gonna just gamble and say "no". Nobody would be that stupid- they would use a gun, or something a little more normal.
However, if the pencils were long and sharp enough, and the lead strong enough (say 3h or above) you could concievably penetrate your own brain that way, since the pencil tips could penetrate the olfactory receptors at the top of the nostril. However, it's not really guaranteed that you would die- in fact there would be a good chance of survival, although your personality would be grossly affected: you would become rude and ignorant of social conventions, such as not pissing (or, unfortunately, crapping) in the street.

It was supposed to be in an exam, in Britain.

I think this is along the same lines as "If you pricked yourself with a pencil, would you die of lead poisoning?" :dizzy2:

I've heard this one too, reassuring not long before my exams.

Just doesn't seem possible to me, because the angle in which he had to headbutt the table with would actually make it a nose-butt. But dunno, if he really wanted to do it, I suppose it might be possible.
I've heard similar stories, most commonly with spoons.

Spoons? Ow. That would hurt.
yeah the one i used to hear was don't run with a spoon in your mouth, coz some kid fell over and the spoon killed him.

I read a story like this in a Fortean Times with the boy actually putting the pencil into an inkwell in the table and drove his eye right into it. Something to do with exam stress apparently. I'm not sure if he died though
