Please post pictures or paintings of your favorite Men of war from any era. Personally I prefer the age of sail.

Heres the world's oldest commissioned warship afloat

Check out the intro on this site (http://www.ussconstitution.com/storefront.htm)

The Constitution was built at Edmund Hart's shipyard in Boston from the resilient lumber of 2,000 live oak trees (specifically Southern live oak)cut and milled at Gascoigne Bluff on St. Simons, Georgia. The Constitution's planks were up to seven inches (178 mm) thick. The ship's design was also unique for its time because of a diagonal cross-bracing of the ship's skeleton that contributed considerably to the ship's structural strength. Paul Revere forged the copper spikes and bolts that held the planks in place and the copper sheathing that protected the hull. Thus armed, Constitution first put to sea 22 July 1798 and saw her first service patrolling the southeast coast of the United States during the Quasi-War with France.

Of Course its the HMS Victory. The great thing about both these ships is you can still see them.

The Victory is in permanent drydock while the Constitution still sail the seas.

Men of War are armed naval ships designed for only one purpose. To fight .

Hmm, im more into battleships, but you did say a man of war was an "armed naval ships designed for only one purpose. To fight .", so i guess they count too.

The runner up to the Constitution, on display at Hartlepool,

My favourite fighting ship 'cos I get to play "Army" on it a couple of times a year under the guise of historical re-enactment.

Oh it's HMS Tricomalee by the way, A RN frigate built in 1817.

I personally like the early-mid 1900s for ships.

My granddad was a shipwright in HM Dockyard Chatham all his life (well, except for a small diversion to Alexandria Dockyard 1939-45) and he always said HMS Hood was the most beautiful ship he ever saw.

So I bow to his professional opinion.

Victory is a more convenient and dryer day out though.

I agree with EA's grand-dad - the HMS Hood was a very elegant looking ship. Maybe like PJ, I made models of some battleships in my youth - the Bismarck bristled with guns and looked mean, but the Hood was an object of beauty,

Thanks Beirut. IMO this should be a forum rule... wrecked layout and +10 min loading time aren't so cool ~:)
