I want to know, because I had a conversation with my friend and neither one of us could agree on it.

I know you don't want to do heroin, BP.

My advice to you is stay away from everything except Marijuana. And as far as the Marijuana is concerned, wait until you are at least old enough to drink. By then you should have your priorities in life figured out and you probably won't even care about drugs. Alcohol is every bit a drug as Marijuana is, and in some ways is worse.

Although I support individual choice, make no mistake: Drugs are EXTREMELY DESTRUCTIVE. While I will not go into my personal experience I will say that if life was a blackboard, this is one part of my life I would gladly erase.

Yeah, you can do it in Amsterdam, in specific "bars" set up expressly for that purpose. I heard that people were lobbying hard to shut down the drug atmosphere of the red light district, though, so I don't know if it'll last.

Heroin's pretty heavy stuff. I assume you meant "could" and not "can". In any case, if you're going to take heroin, just chase the dragon. The needle will really do you over.

Cavalry to the rescue. Psylocybin (mushrooms) is completely free, possession of cannabis-products (hashish and marijuana) is legal under 5 grams or five cannabis sativa plants respectively. Anything above that is forbidden. Possession of 100 grams of marijuana => confiscation + a 500 euro fine.
All physically addictive drugs (herion, cocain, exstacy) are prohibited. Even a minimum amount => fine + extradition.

Oh, them Indians keep showing up - more cavalry!

I was thinking about the laws on producing the ****. Can I grow my own weed, is that legal? And then selling it? Or do I need to be liscensed?

Or do I need to be liscensed?Production is prohibited, and that rule is strictly enforced. Outdoor cannabis planting is non-existent. Indoor cannabis 'plantations' are being cleaned out by police all the time. Happens every day. Owner is arrested, fined or jailed, goods are confiscated, illegal proceeds are confiscated (after tax, hahaha) and owner is made to pay arrears + mega-fine on illegally tapped electricity (indoor cannabis growing requires very strong fluorescent or high intensity discharge lamps).

that's what I thought. Then, my next question, how do you get the 'goods' you are selling. It cant be from import, can it? I mean, someone must be producing it IN Holland so the coffeeshops can distribute, right?

I mean, someone must be producing it IN Holland so the coffeeshops can distribute, right?I knew that would be your next question. Most of it is illegal import, but a substantial amount is (illegally) home grown 'Nederwiet' (Nether-weed).

So the supply issue is a hazy area. Our coffeeshops were originally set up as the first step toward controlling the flow of all sorts of drugs in Dutch society. We have managed to substantially reduce drug abuse (of all substances) in the past 25 years. But repressive European legslation (following the model of France and Germany) has made it legally impossible to establish a responsible policy for cannabis cultivation and supply.

On the other hand, because the Dutch approach works it has become something of a model as numerous countries have started to revise their drug policies. The Swiss for instance have been drawing up legislation to introduce coffee shops. The EU is the nut to crack though; and the Germans and French in particular.
