ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — Police commandos burst into an all-girls madrassa here in what was meant to be a dramatic example of Pakistan's commitment to cracking down on Islamic extremism and religious schools that promote it. But the July 19 raid turned into a debacle.

Caught without their veils, the teenage girls screamed — and then rallied. Grabbing mops, brooms, stones and knives, they drove the commandos out.

No one was arrested, and police even missed a chance to nab one of the mosque's top clerics: Hours before the raid, Abdul Rashid Ghazi had been in police headquarters for a routine meeting with the commissioner. "They could have arrested me there," Ghazi says.

Did they shoot any of the girls then claimed they were wearing a bulky burqha?

Good question.

Also, anyone else find it ironic that a police force from the most cheuvinistic region of the planet was beaten down by a bunch of girls who were outraged with shame because the police broke into their Mosque where they had doffed the very symbol of their oppression?

Not quite as amusing if you read the entire article. The police responded with teargas and batons.

Were they beaten down ? The valiant forces did manage to injure 62 of the girls .

How many female presidents has USA had?
Ah , but how many American presidents have said that women only claim they are raped so they can move to Canada and become millionaires ?

Who here is poking fun at the plight of the girls in this situation?

Ironic? No, not at all, appropriate yes! An outraged woman can be quite dangerous, especially to men who expect women to be subservient and docile. My mother is tiny, but when she was similarly upset she could put the hurts on a full grown military age male--I saw her do it once when I was in Junior High.

Most men if sent in thinking they are going to be dealing with a bunch of military age young males in a potentially very hostile environment would be reluctant to pound on a bunch of girls initially, and probably recoil at the girls understandable irritation and agitated response. Poor intelligence, sending a group of soldiers into a position they were utterly unprepared to deal with.

Who here is poking fun at the plight of the girls in this situation? Oh, but I didn’t suggest that anyone here did that. I found it slightly amusing too, until I read the rest that was.
