hasn't been much talk going on recently so i will stimulate some. anyone wanna guess who the remaining two factions are? before anyone says "oh but there are five faction slots left because of unified rome" khelvan has specifically stated that there would be two new factions, bactria which we hav already had (replaces numidia) and something else that is a secret. now i am assuming that dacia and thrace hav either been merged or that only one prominent tribe from that area will be represented with a faction, and that the slot freed up by doing this will go towards the new faction.so, for our un-previewed factions, we have:
1.Thraco-dacian faction
2.?????
There has been some speculation to who this last one is. I will now state the factions that EB members hav stated specifically it will not be: Averni (sp?), Mauryans, and anything further east than the mauryans (obviously due to map constraints). i believe there are some other factions we can rule out:
1) Numidia, for obvious reasons. also i think they hav said that they (EB) were not important enough to be in.
2) Galatians, because Pontos gets galatian units and i do not believe that they would give them these if they were planning a seperate Galatians faction.
3) Any of the other Gallic tribes, for obvious reasons.
there are more but unfortunately i am bored and kinda drunk so cannot think them up. its not against the rules to come on here drunk is it (if we behave ourselves)? now there are heaps of other factions it could be, so lets start guessing. personally i think a bosporan kingdom woukd be cool, as would be cyrene. also i think there is a lot of room in bohemia and austria and hungary for a faction, if there were any prominent tribes there during the time. that would also be way cool. everytime i ask about this region i get silence from EB so who knows..... so get guessing and lets try figure this out!

man was i wasted when i posted this...... ummm khelvan i think you said it on the TWC forums in one of your stickeys that was just about the mod, like a FAQ or something. i dunno somewhere around there. you better not go and change that now to make us argue any further about it.... and jerby, do you mean that some hav expressed that perhaps thrace and dacia aren't merged, or that they r just unhappy about it? i thought maybe they wouldn't "merge" them but rather just choose one tribe to represent that kind of area, like choosing aedui instead of having both aedui and averni. anyway, yeh, i'm crazy.

Ahh, so I did say that. Well, that post is incredibly outdated in many ways, not just regarding factions. I do have to change that sometime...
well. the 'workgrouplist' shows there are two different faction coordinators (telekos for thrace, dunno who the other is)
and i meant to say that i think(!) that some eb members wouldn't agree with fusing those two...
On the April Fool's Day thing they said that they would be replacing Thrace with Illyria. They had two serious screenshots. I don't know if they have changed that or if that was a joke like those messes up hoplites.

it had no military influence, and absoluty no dream of expansion..
i would say: make the starting date 260-270. and make Eprius+phyrrus..
No that were local rebels or mercenaries, at least one of those.

I like the idea of an additional greco-roman faction. I don't know of any historically, but including something on, say, the italian peninsula such as Etruscans would be cool. Or perhaps another barbarian faction. or not. whatever.
Not to make a comparison, but I liked the Illyrians in RTR6. They were underpowered and faced huge threats, consequently getting destroyed every time, but I liked their irrelevance and obscurity. It was fascinating.

well the Romans have their territory so I guess they were already conquered by them, same for the Samnites.

They had a pretty strong naval/pirate influence. Rome fought a couple of wars with them in the 230's and 220's BC. Pyrrhus would be 280's and 270's BC, not 260's.

I'd rather have eprius in stead of Illirya..or just tharce/dacia..everything is fine.
maybe one of teh Hard-coded-slots can be used for a slave-faction of rome. Like the etruscans or samnites.. on any allie of rome in the penisuela..

To be honest, I think the EB team decided definitively what they would and wouldn't be including a long time ago... Feel free to speculate, but I don't think your ideas will be acted upon, the time for suggestions is over.

Since Illyria was mentioned, I'll reiterate Urnamma's usual point; it will not be in. Even if we could add more factions, we probably would not add Illyria; they were too disunified, and accomplished nothing. There are plenty of more unified small factions that could be added that would provide a realistically difficult challenge to conquer anything, but also had more cohesive unity to make it feesably possible. We considered quite a lot of factions, many of which that would have only one or two provinces, but were unified peoples, and so could reasonably expand.

there are no Illirains, numidians and mauryans and I don't think it's possible to name every tribe, kingdom, citystate,... that didn't make it into the game.
well. i was just curious about the candidates..
well frankly I don't know all the candidates but I think the EB would have discussed about all major candidates.
(And if I did sound angry in my last post or something I didn't ment to)

We considered many city-states, tribes, tribal confederacies, and minor kingdoms. Celts/demi-Celts alone, there were considered at various times (and this is probably missing a few);
Aedui
Armorica
Aquitanni
Arverni
Atrebates
Belgae
Bonnona (central European Boii)
Brigantes
Casse/Catuvelluanians
Dumnones
Galatia
Goidils
Lugiae
Noricum
Tylisia/Tylis
To put it lightly, we considered our options. And not just for Celts, but for Hellenes, the Italic peninsula, Iberia, Africa, Arabia, the steppe, Germania, Dacia, etc. It's impossible to please everyone though, so inevitably, some factions people want badly for whatever reason, simply aren't going to make it in.

though I don't know much about them I'd bet they would be cool.
And if there were factions I'd also loved a Numidian and (if historically there was) a Nubian kingdom or something.
