View Full Version : An old thread revisited, how do you play the game?

From reading posts every now and then, I see that a lot of people tend to favour beating the game as quickly as possible with poorish units. May I ask why you do that, because it really does take a lot away from the fun of the game. I'm curious as to how everyone plays the game, whether you are a blitzer, or what else you do. I tend to favour one of two approaches.

1) Following the senates orders only (frustrating at times, but can still lead to an empire of sorts).
2) Blitzing a mini-empire, eg., own all of Greece or Asia Minor. Investing in infrastructure and other factions and having competitive late game against another empire or two.

So I want to know how you kept the game fun (not necessarily challenging, cause thats an entire different thread, but fun), without using mods?

Hi Norxis ~

My games as the Romans tend to be longer as:

I raze all military buildings in conquered settlements as I think it is unrealistic to start producing high level troops immediately.

I have a standard legion sent to conquer of 15 units with 5 units left for local mercs. Mercs become a higher percentage of this legion as losses are taken.

I follow the senate orders as long as they coincide with my own plans at the time.

I blitz early where possible, then consolidate and expand while waiting for elite units as the game becomes more micro..
