Can someone please explain the differences between the armies of New Kingdom Egypt and the Hittites.

In particular I would like to know about the archery skills on both sides and the effectiveness of each one's chariots.

Help from this forums would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Their chariots were not better per se, as the Hittite chariots were shock weapons. Heavier and sturdier, meant to plow into enemy infantry.
The Egyptian chariots were meant to keep the archer alive and mobile, so it was lighter and more flimsy.

What the Hittite chariots did at Qadesh, the Egyptian chariots could never have done, breaking up an entire collumn of grizzled infantry. But they tired out chasing them around and attacking the camp. Poor choice of action.

Also remember that only the Hittite chariots were used (their infantry was across the river not ready for combat), meanwhile the Egyptians had both chariots and infantry ready.

One reason that the hittites woulod revert to the shock chariots was that they had more primitave archer technology. the had simple bows with stone tips and sinue cords. the egyptian had advanced recurve bows, reed strings, ivory or bronze tipped arrows. they egyptians were far more reliant on there archers...uh oh i would continue but i gotr to go, i'm kinda in school.~D
