I'm headed out to go grab my copy but I have 2 questions for you all.
1) When I install BI will I still be able to play the original map and factions aswell? I was told I would be able to because the install of BI will be in a different folder. If thats the case what will the install of BI do to improve (if anything) to the original map and campaign?
2) I currently have RTR 6.0, will I have to take it out and install a fresh version of RTW? How can I cleanly take just RTR 6.0 out w/o haven to install everything over again?
Thanks guys!
You will have two shortcuts on your desktop: one for RTW and one for BI. RTW is also updated to 1.3 as the bug fixes for BI got implemented in RTW too.
If you only have one install of RTW and it has RTR on it then I suggest you copy that folder to somewhere else so you can keep playing RTR and then uninstall the original folder.

I also have RTR installed and I actually only have disc one with me currently (the other disks I have left at my parents home). So my question is is there any way I can still install BI on top of RTR (I dont care if RTR still winds up playable or not) or will I need to travel to my parent's house to pick up the rest of the disks in order to re-install a fresh version of RTW?

Can I install BI over 1.2?
Can I install BI over 1.2?
Wha. If you mean install BI when you got the 1.2 patch installed, then yes, that`s what I did.
I did not see an option to play RTW after installing BI.....I installed over RTR and had no problems....

So I can install Barbarian invasion over my copy of Rome Total Realism without having to reinstall (something which is not an option right now cause I dont have disks 2 and 3 and with me)??? If this is true then I am truly excited and will buy BI as soon as possible. Can anyone else confirm this???

Can I still continue in-progress campaigns in RTW (vanilla 1.2) after the 1.3 patch is installed along with BI?
Sorry if this has been asked and answered elsewhere... I don't remember seeing it.
Im not sure about that. RTW 1.3 has some changes in the campaign file and it might screw up save games. Best thing to do is copy your old RTW folder as use that if you want to continue your old games. Until someone figures out if save games actually do work.

Friend of mine (littlegannon) installed over 1.2 and he has a desktop icon for RTW, and a desktop icon for BI. So, hopefully, he'll be able to play both. I'm starting to get excited about BI now. Started a joint-campaign with the Alans earlier on. Took the Franks ouot, and they've moved their horde east.

You might want to try a fresh install of RTW before installing BI. I assumed/hoped the install would overwrite the changes I made to the game so I backed up my modified files and installed BI. Whilst the separate BI executable file and campaign runs perfectly, RTW itself no longer works. Seems a few things have changed but the install failed to replace some of my modified files, so it looks like a complete re-install of RTW and BI is in order. That will be such fun!

I have a fresh install of RTW patched to 1.2 backed up. SO .. if I want any mods or BI, I just copy the backup to a new directory and apply the mod/update, so easy it hurts.

I had a fresh install of RTW backed up I that I could have reverted to as well. Shame I was too lazy to use it before installing BI. Joy.

Saved games don't work. I lost my Carthiginian campaign. Shame that, it was getting quite interesting.
i had problems straight away, so did a full reinstall of RTW then BI. it seems ok now.my version now says 1.4[BI] not tried RTW yet. i think my problem was with the unofficial patch. which caused units to freeze on BI games, slow right down and when i left the game/saved it the pic from that game appeared overlapped on the RTW start up seqence [weird]??.the best bet is to do a clean install of RTW then BI after. i also had problems uninstalling RTW and had to manually remove some folders left over. got an error message when uninstalling.
i assume my problem was with the unofficial patch. and i have read the manual and it says installing the original patches from RTW onto the BI version will cause problems.so the reality is that BI patches RTW up anyway. if you had RTW unpatched BI would patch up to latest version. the thing is in [my opinion] even if your game has been even slightly modded you will get problems.
or it may be something totally unrelated[my problem.]
anyway it seems fine now.[hopefully]
