Ok here is the story. I have started on my new job a month ago and I am thinking of donating 1-5% of my wage per month to help other people/animals/nature etc which is the right thing to do and I am sure will give me warm and fuzzy feeling and make me sleep better at nights....ahem....so...

...A thought fell from the sky and squeezing through my ear arrived, all sticky and waxy, to my brain...

...How about an .org aid funds. My idea is: We can all make an effort and donate, to our prefered organisations/charities and use an .org topic to organise it all.

The main rules as I think of them atm:

1) You can donate anywhere you like and as much as you like

2) International ( like WHO ) OR local acting organisations ( like a charity that helps kids with cancer in your home country ).

3) As long as it will create a social benefit, globally acceptable ( ie. you cant donate on N.Korea's nuclear programme or to an army or to a political party , Nazis etc etc )

4) Fields of donation, but not restricted to : Humanitarian Aid, Educational Aid ( helping kids go to school in poor countries), Human Rights organisations, Medical Aid ( Including WHO programmes but also medical research funding), Refugee support, Animal Welfare, Nature Protection.

The main functions of such a topic would be:

1) A ground to introduce an organisation/charity you think is doing a good job and needs funding to OTHER .ORG MEMBERS who can help. IE you can say 'I know/donate to these guys for such and such and such reason'

2) Extending (1) we can create a catalogue with all those organisations to make donating easier.

3) A tavern place where people can finally agree upon something ~D

THE PROPOSED FUNCTIONS OF SUCH A TOPIC WOULD BE ( SUBJECT TO MODERATORS AGREEING AND PUBLIC ACCEPTANCE ):

1) We can set a monetary goal to achieve. Lets say for example $1000 before Christmas or something like that. Now I would hate this to go into a contest of who gives more so I have some ideas:

a) Someone acts as a 'secretary'. He sets up an email account. We also create a number of 'donators' e-mail accounts. Now everyone who donates can send an email from a donator account to the 'secretary' saying ' I donated this much to this organisation ' or he can skip the organisation entirely. THIS SYSTEM WILL ALLOW PEOPLE TO DONATE ANONYMOUSLY. With this way the secretary will be able to keep track and inform us about reaching our goal and about which organisations get the most help.

b) We are allowed but not obliged to disclose Sum and Organisation as a post in the topic. This way we can still sort of keep track. I myself am not sure about this since it might become a contest ( on the other hand, if it does, the organisations will get more money to help ppl with ~;) )

c) We just keep it a 'aid organisations' topic and do not post any sums but have the chance to tell where we donated.

FOR THIS TO HAPPEN WE NEED PARTICIPATION. Hence I wanna see if ppl think its a good idea first. So I ll try to create a poll and may the gods help me and I do it right....

Ok I added the poll option and I think they explain themselves. If you have any questions just ask. If ppl are interested we can do this! Cmon ppl :)

There are 3 poll questions. It ll be good if all 3 are answered :)

I also wanna know if the .org is ok with such a thing and wants to take things over maybe

As long as money is not going to any organisations with religious or political goals I will praticipate, with great pleasure. Good thinking and congratulations on your new job.

Whats wrong with religious charities? They do a hell of a lot better than many secular ones.

I think he means un-registered charities that would probably take the money for themselves..

on topic: You have my full support and i think its a great idea!

Great idea my fellow Balkan!

I think we should give the money to WWF or Rotary. ~:)

No I meant religious charities. I'm not funding any of those, be it Jewish, Christian, Hindu, Muslim or whatever, for my own reasons. I won't state those reasons here because that's not the topic of the thread.

But yes naturally if we do this it has to be a fully fledged entity ;)

No all the ones I would donate too are VERY politically motivated.
