Q: Why can\'t I use Map Editor?

I have a perfectly legitimate copy (purchased on eBay). I registered it. I've never been asked to supply the CD Key, but I'm still able to play. Something to do with the readme file required a file that I was missing.

So, would any of that stop me from actually using Map Editor? Because both Map Editor and Multiplayer are greyed out....

It turned out that DirectX 8.1 needed to be installed. I thought it had said I had it during installation.

So, the map editor is just a tactical map editor? Or am I missing some button to take me to a strategic map editor?

the map editor is just for the tactical maps, yes. the strat map can be edited, but it takes a whole lot more work to do that and does NOT come with the game.

the copy of directX that is on game CD#2 is the only version i have found that will allow the map editor to work on my Geforce card,
even the latest version from MS does NOT allow the Map Editor to work (on my card)!

Vanya ponders... what is the difference between Vanya's DirectX 8.1 and the DirectX 8.1 on the CD? Vanya wonders why one DX8.1 works for some while the same DX8.1 won't work for them unless it came from the CD... Is the version on the CD really 8.1? Or is it something funny like 8.1a? Vanya asks... is installing the CD version over Vanya's current version (both being "8.1") do the trick?

Simply stating that Vanya's video card "has no resources" is to be fooling yourself with a false answer. Vanya sez... If it works on one 16 MB video card, it should work on all 16 MB video cards! Now, Vanya feels entitled! [Takes big swig of sake] GAH!
