Haven't seen this discussed. One of the thigns that made RTW so easy was that you could literally pump a guy up to 8 stars or so in 3-4 battles (2-3 base, +3 from "expert attacker/defender" traits, and then 2-3 from retinue).

For wahtever reason, the AI never managed to do that in my games (with a few exceptions, where generals had high rankings to begin with). And this led to a rather massive advantage for player-controlled armies -- or, at VH difficulty, erosion of the disadvantage for player-controlled armies.

Has CA tweaked this to make the RPG aspects more fun/challenging? Or do you still get fantastic attributes after every victory, and numerous retinue at every war temple?

To me it seems to be lowered. I don't have any super generals anymore. But retinues do rise fast, but mostly with scribes and such. I do get Runners frequently though.

Generals do seem to improve more slowly. Rebel hunting does seem to provide as easy a way to add stars to a general.

I have question.

If a general dies with his title does it revert somewhere? Or are they given randomly with a general? Titles can moved around in the same way as retinue, but it far more cumbersome than how it was done in MTW.

Yes that question I have asked myself a bit too. And so far it seems that the titles are indeed just 'another' item. That is a major letdown to me, so I hope someone will prove my observation wrong.

The title of Commander in Chief moves around.

I believe the doubled combat trigger bug was fixed in patch 1.3. The one that caused your general to get 2 points towards GoodCommander (and every other trait gained after a battle) for every battle you fought manually, while autoresolve only gave 1. That should halve the rate of increase in those traits, compared to vanilla RTW. ~D
