Hey I have a quick question...I was wondering if anyone had or could tell me where to find the following sound file. You know in the game when you conquer a city and the guy says "This Land is Roman"? I was wondering if anyone had that sound file or knew where it was on the cd/harddrive? It would make a neat windows log on sound :) Thanks!

Haha, good idea. I heard that last night when conquering Appolonia for the final city in the prologue.

If anyone finds out, post a sort of guide on how to change it to a log-on sound (I have trouble with computers :furious:).

If the sound files are the same format and similar location as in MTW, you can try going into the install folder (usually in C:\Program Files unless you manually changed it to a different location) and locate the Sounds directory. Otherwise I like how these are very accessible. I don't have RTW so I can't specify which it would be.

For MTW, if you installed to the C: you would go here:

C:\Program Files\Total War\Medieval - Total War\Sounds.

It might be similar. Shogun Total War is the following:

C:\Program Files\Shogun total war\Sounds

So you may want to check all possible locations.

As to setting these as windows system sounds, you have to go to the control panel.

Usually Start -> Settings -> Control Panel, or Just Start -> Control Panel (depends on windows version and how you have it setup. These instructions presume Windows XP, but should be similar enough for other versions).

From there find something that says Sounds and Audio Devices and there should be a Sounds tab. You can scroll through the "Program events" list and highlight "Start Windows" (or "Exit Windows" if you wanted to have it play when you shut down. Below that will be a drop down box, but you instead want to click Browse. Now just find your way to the sounds folder in the Total War install directory and select the file you want to use. To verify you have the correct one, there is a play button.

I was using on my laptop the starcraft sound "Nuclear Launch Detected" when I Started windows. It was fun. I was also using a analog modem ring tone as well. I also used Warcraft 2's Death Knight "When my work is finished, I'm coming after you" sound on startup. Then there were the double-headed ogres... Ah, good times.

In RTW the sound files are packed, take a look in the modding forum, the Scriptorium especially, there you should be able to find detailed info about it.

I tried to do my own voice recording on the computer for the Windows logged on part, and when I played the file I sounded like Greta Garbo! Admittedly my voice hasn't quite broken yet.

As you get into the groove at the .org (these forums), you'll find we have many professional modders, who work very hard to make very good mods. Byzantine: Total War, is one of those mods. You should check it out in the RTW Modification section or the Hosted Mods section.
