I thought I'd give the Huns a go, and apart from the mass of troops what real structure do the units have. Apart from the horse archers, the other cavalry and infantry formations dont stand up in a fight vs solid infantry phalanxs. Anyone agree?
Well, you can't hope to win head on, that is for sure. Cavalry charges have been nerfed greatly, especially against spearinfantry. So don't charge those Chosen Warriors into a unit of Legio Lanciarii.
Well, what do you want, after all, the strength of cavalry was one point of heavy criticism around here?
Well horde troops are weak and they should be too(except huns I guess).
Gotta remember that these aren't trained soldiers but peasants with good weapons, shields and armor.
They can't match a trained soldier.

Still, Rebelscum's right. I don't use Hun infantry for anything but garrisons.
Huns are supposed to be easy, but I still haven't figured out a good strategy for them.
good strategy for huns.
take contantinople/thrace from the start =) then spread out.

He is right. The Hun infantry is low grade....so not much expectation there. Try a MP battle and you will soon find out that they have very expensive units when compared to other factions. These other factions not only have equal or better cav and HA but they have solid inf too, plus normal archers. As long as you can face Huns, you can stand all day and let them use up all their arrows, the losses will be of little concern since after the arrows, the Huns have little else. It is still early but I think Huns will be less of a force than most

well what about fatigue? i mean the huns can theoretically just run around the player in circles...right? (this coming from a guy who has NEVER EVER touched the mp side of TW Games)

This reminds me, I think im going to go mod out the horde formation for all troops :/. I never did like it.

the problem is the core if the unit strikes to late.

Unfortunately, the battle map has a redzone all around it. It is possible to prevent flanking manoeuvres by attaching one flank of your army to this redzone/brick wall. The Huns will also suffer fatigue by dashing about looking for that weak flank and their melee cav and inf will get short change from some of the very strong inf of other factions. I am not saying that victory is impossible for the Huns but it will be a tough job. They do have better HA units like their Elites but they are expensive and many other factions have HA that equal Hun HA. Alan merc HA even have better melee stats. The Hun HA should be stronger than the others

So the strategy would be to weaken the formations with the horse archers then try to attack with the cavalry from the rear while the infantry keep them busy at the front. Seems a bit same-ish. I tried the all out mass attack with everything and ended up loosing a fight in a village street when I had no room to maneuvre.
