View Full Version : CTD for every battle

Well, my first go on the game, I didn't think I had long so I set up for a quick custom battle. Battle loads, and at the end of the loading bar: CTD!

So, I loaded up a campaign, and then went for a battle (rebels) and reached the end of the loading bar, and then BAM! Another CTD! Is this a known bug, and is there a fix?

I've had a total of one CTD in hours of play, but it was also right after a battle, during a campaign.

Mine is before EVERY battle.

I could auto-calc, but I would get bored easily, I love the killing :knight:

You sure you haven`t modified any of the files in the BI folders?

Craterus
10-03-2005, 21:30
No, course not, I'm happy with these games as they come. Installed it, checked RTW still loaded alright, checked BI loaded OK, then went to bed. Loaded it up this afternoon to find I couldn't play custom battle etc. (you know the rest)

littlegannon has had CTD's with his game too. Maybe it is the Basingstoke batch?

Hey, what about modified files in the R:TW folders? Mine was a very clean install — my hard drive on my old computer died recently, so my game was nothing but vanilla R:TW with patches.

Before the release, I removed and deleted all trace of Mundus Magnus (I hope), so I could play MP again. I uninstalled, then installed again, so that should be a clean install? I also patched up to 1.2 .

I`ve done exactly what you did. Do you have the BI demo installed? Might got something do with it, although I(for some reason) still got it installed and have only experienced one CTD; when I pressed the end of turn button.

Craterus

Didn't get the demo, wasn't all that enthusiastic before the release...

I also patched up to 1.2 . was this before or after installing BI???

Before. :help:

i dont think theres a need to patch up the game. BI automatically does it anyway. i had graphic glitches etc did a clean install of RTW and it seems fine now. my problems were units frozen etc on battle map etc. i know its a pain but you could try a clean install .also check your folders [activision ] for stuff left over from un"installing the game. as i found folders left after removing the game and had to manually remove the RTW folders left over??.

or has cd been marked damaged/virus,hardrive problem, did you disable firewall, antivirus software before installing ??i have kids so tend to hide mine well away from prying eyes[and sticky bleeding fingers]

I had exactly the same situation once, when re-installing M:TW.

Ok, I'll try an install and won't patch up to 1.2, but that won't happen until tomorrow, haven't got time today.

Thanks, if that doesn't work, then I'll bump this topic.

in the manual with the game it says there no need to patch up the game.[RTW]

the simple rules are .

1/uninstall then check for files left over they wil be in a activision folder if they are.

2/disable firewall,antivirus,spamkiller,privacy service software.

3/defrag hardrive

4/check disks for marks blemishes etc.

5/ [pray to your god whoever that is and install RTW/BI] and hopefully everything should be ticktyboo.

i aint trying to be smart because i have done it a few times myself. in haste you install a game. and thats without defraging or disabling antivirus software. but the biggest culprit tends to be when you forget to disable your antivirus software and this can cause you no end of problems aggro.

hope everthing sorts it,s self out

Well, my friend had the same problem and I recommended your advice (basically remove everything and install over a clean 1.0, and he said it worked for him) and it WORKED!!

Hopefully, it will work for me when I do it.

jimmy, I don't muck about with the anti-virus etc. I always manage to change settings or mess something up. But if the above doesn't work, I'll use your idea. Thanks mate.

i run MC,Afee antivirus latest versions[2005 V7] i dont mean mucking about with it .it,s easy to disable it/ or just temp shut them down [ i right click on my mcafee security centre and select the programme to disable[ there are 4 programmes on mine i tend to disable them all] and you should get an option to disable it ] once the games loaded just right click again [for options] to enable it to all work again.as for patches mods, when i am downloading them. I ALWAYS have my antivirus software enabled only disable it when you have done a virus scan and its OK so you can install it into the game.

i know its a pain but it usely pays dividends to take your time and just check various things. left over folders could be a problem [can someone confirm this] in the sense how the game installs its self to RTW so you could end up with problems there. firewalls/antivirus corrupt/interrupt installations as well.

any waylet us know how you get on.~:)

A bit to the side of the topic but I had CTD every time for trying to run RTW after installing BI. Even did a clean re-install over RTW1.0 and the same thing. BI seemed to work fine until I got a CTD when I won the battle that should have generated the RomanoBritish in my Saxon campaign. This got me thinking.

I reinstalled the Media Format 9 thingy that comes on RTW disc1 and have had no more problems.

I noticed after my uninstall there was still folders to manually delete for the game. Bit of a pain, nothing we cant handle though!

It's problem after problem for me.

Computer froze as I uninstalled RTW. And now I've lost the uninstall file, so I can't uninstall the game. This is really testing my patience, and my temper even more :furious: .

can you not manually delete the folder/folders[activison] then empty the recycle bin contents.just click hardrive/programe files/activison folder then manually delete the lot.a visit to apothecary may be in order and post your problem there.

hope it sorts it out for you.

I deleted the entire Activision folder before, and my dad fixed it, I'd lost the uninstall file that time too. If he can't fix it this time, I'll post in the Apothecary..

I lost the RTW uninstall file when I first uninstalled BI. The uninstall works from the RTW disc1 though. When you put the CD in the drive the menu comes up with uninstall as an option.
Well, it worked for me.

Craterus

When I click the uninstall option, it looks to run, but then does nothing.

from disk one?? like the previous poster states insert the disk and try uninstall from there. if you cant post your problem in apothecary the tech heads should help you solve your problem.

sorry couldnt help you out any more.

I managed to uninstall RTW, and then installed RTW, and BI straight afterwards, but I still get CTD's.

This has been the most persistent problem running the game I've ever heard of. Have you contacted SEGA about it?

Craterus

No... I am now going to try and install the latest versions of DirectX and WMP. If that doesn't work, I might try jimmy's suggestion:

If I'm too angry to do that, then I will contact Sega.

I did this, but it still doesn't work. I give up. I think I will play RTW 1.3.

What version of DirectX are you running? You will probably need the latest version, which I think is 9.0c.

Aside from the memory leak (slowdown) I havent had any CTD at all but then I dont use any active antivirus or utility software.

RTW 1.3 didnt work, so I decided to try and install on another computer. 1.3 didnt work there, nor did BI. I truly give up now. I am back on 1.0!!!

you may have a bad CD eithier one from RTW,or BI. you are not trying to patch the game after installing BI.?? as it automatically patches RTW to 1.3 if you install RTW then BI RTW is then version 1.3 also go to the extras on your game disc cant rember now but eithier RTW disc 1 or BI disc for some extra downloads. failing that there are links on the CD readme with contacts to sega/activison etc them email them your problem.

Man, i'm getting the same problem on my Romano-British campaign, it goes CTD everytime I load a battle, the loading screen completes, the battle entrance screen shows up, and when I click start battle it goes CTD :furious3:.

This sent my fist into the wall quite a few times!

I'm beginning to think it's because of the Equites Clibinarii I added to the Romano-British for recruitment, but i'm not completely sure because I haven't tested it without the Clibinarii, but if I remember correctly it never did this with the Graal Knights or the Comitatenses that I added!

This is making no sense :S.
