Out on DVD from play.com. A great film about the crusades, slightly panned for its historical innacuracy. If you like the sight of large armies clashing and city seiges this is the film for you.
~
Why is this here ??
And IMO KoH sucked badly.

Kingdom of Heaven has NO place in the Colisseum. Wrong era, wrong discussion, wrong setting, wrong forum.

Can't say I enjoyed the movie, but this was mainly due to Orlando Bloom's inability to carry such a part. Favourite part was the battle at the start in the forests and the sequences where Balian helped build up his land.

You don't have to be mean dude...
To tell you the truth I think there were many times when the movie could have had clashing armies and such, but he didn't. I personally would say I liked it, because of the genre, but I don't think I'd buy it on DVD.
Thanks for the notice though! I'll be sure to spread the word!~:)

He couldn't carry it?!
I beg to differ. His inherent looks of selfdoubt are in fact very in line with his character. He might not be a dialogist, but he is kept clear of that and allowed to be himself to a great extent. If that is not your view of the character then say so, but to say that Bloom didn't do what he was casted for with ample skill is simply wrong.
I do not say he was the best, but he was not wrong either.
Why is it, that every time we discuss Bloom, Di Caprio, Farrel or Pitt that they get a major axing? Hmm... Could it be that they have acted in girlfliks and are indeed quite handsome and have had their amount of success with the popularity of the fairer sex? Smells a whole lot like people can't stand that. I'll grant anyone that Farrel is not going to be a superb actor, neither perhaps Bloom (thought not a bad nor inept one either), but the other two can act and can act well.

Yes large armies that dont fight. The best scene was the one on one between the Christain and the Muslim on the desert. After that the film went down hill. I dispised the so called hero for what he did.

If you have'nt watched it, I'd recommend it. It's fantasy mostly but still it is surely intersting to watch for any MTW player.

Does this have any changes from the theatrical release? I was hoping they'd show more of the Battle of Hattin.

He wasn't bad, no. When he was not being a leader of large numbers of people the part suited him. Like I said, it worked at the start of the movie and throughout the sequence where he works his land. Where he started struggling was when he was portrayed as an inspiring figure and leader of Jerusalem; he simply didn't quite have the powerful acting to make that side of his character believable.
Really not knocking him. There are actors who would have (and have) done far worse, but this movie needed someone with a bit more strength to carry the film, and in that regard he didn't quite nail it.
Perhaps I should see the movie again; maybe without such high expectations as before I can enjoy it on it's own merits.

I haven't seen the film - what did he do that you despise? {Spoiler warning on...}

This is the theatrical release. My copy of Empire this month suggests that people may want to wait a while for the inevitable Director's Cut before deciding whether they would like to purchase the original or extended version.
Will be waiting for the longer one myself . . . ~:handball:

The seige battle at the end was quite good. And yeah it is a pity those armies didn't clash when they met on the feild. It looked ripe for a good bit of carnage to me. :knight:

rebelscum, though I can relate to your reasoning, if everyone used the same criteria to determine in which forum they post all their topics, we'd have a mess on our hands. We have different forums to make it easier for people to find subjects that interest them. If I used your logic, I could open a thread to discuss the Green Bay Packers game last night here in the Monastery, but continuing this practice would eventually clutter the Monastery with non-historical threads. Her post may have been a little terse, but kekv was 100% correct in what she said. Besides, we moderators are human too - we have our less than Sterling moments every now and then...I had one a couple of days ago.:embarassed:

That is all I ask for.
My experience tells me that people tend to judge movies for their own views of the leading actor/actress. And in the case of the four actors I mentioned there tends to be a good deal of nosewrinkling, and when asked why they are just claimed to be bad. But bad acting is Mark Hamil or that girl (the main female character) from Blade II.
It seems I judged you a little too harshly.

Pushing needs effort. Effort pumps adrenaline. Adrenaline drives me angry. I crash the DVD into pieces..:charge:
I currently prefer to get used to pronounciations of casual talk : Hear the words, watch the Turkish sub, guess the next one and see if the translator did it right ~D
I think I'll be able to improve my listening substantially only by talking the language with a native speaker. Practice makes sense..

LeftEyeNine, that is really neat. I thought just being in Turkey was cool, but being on the Ionian coast[1] is awsome. It was part of Greece, and that's pretty neat. You visited the site of Troy?
[1]Is it called the Ionian coast? I'm about 99% sure, but not certain.

Alexanderofmacedon,
Trusting is something that you take - all at own your risk. That's why I think it would be irrelevant to persuade you to visit Turkey. It's all about your choice. I'm strong, healthy and unbeaten yet here. ~D
Actually I was hardly ever out of my homecity, Aydin and my beloved Izmir. The site of Troy was in Canakkale wasn't it Mouzafphaerre (any abbreviation you use for your nick ?) ?

Sorry to dig up an old thread but I've got the Kingdom of Heaven Director's Cut on DVD (out today in USA) and I must say it has gone from being a rather mediocre film to a great one. 45 minutes are added to the film and it really needed them. The beginning is much more fleshed out and the new scenes help enhance the characters which was vital to the film. Whereas the Theatrical version seemed rushed and patched together, it was clearly cut to bits. This version of the film is far better and I'd give it at least a 9 as opposed to a 7 upon first release.

Good to know. I rather liked the original, despite some awful dialogue ("I fought two days with an arrow in my testicles"). I particularly liked the acting - the chap who plays the warrior monk (and wryly raises his eyes when he hears the testicles line, as if to say "Here we go again") and of course Brendan Gleason ("Give me a war!" => "That is what I do").
What is a KoH thread doing in the monastery!? :wall:
So that I'm not completely off topic: horrible movie!
Could someone please move this the the tavern? My mind bleeds!

I would have thought it better if it as mainly a Liam Neeson (I am a terrible speller) movie and not that other guy who, pardon, kind of reminds me of a woman with a drawn-on beard. I think his acting is pure trash. Fun movie though, as long as it is fun I don't care for historical accuracy. A good disclaimer is to always call something 'Historical Fiction'. You can get away with so much if you say that.
By the way, you Turks are close to me. I'm a couple hundred miles away, I live currently in Yerevan, though when I no longer have to serve I move to the family farm.

Does anyone know if there has ever been a movie on it through Crusader Eyes or is that too politically incorrect?
