I heard people say that you could give them gold or something? Is that true?

Giving them offices helps with loyalty. There's a master of infantry, a couple of Britannia offices, etc.

how do you assign office?
They are a retinue member handed out by the government building.

can you tell me how i do that? what kind of building would I need as eastern roman?

No, I'm not talking about retinues, but offices. There are several in the game - they look like retinues, they show up in the same place, but they are offices, not people. Dux Britannia, Magister Militum, Magister Equitum, etc.

I can't speak for other factions, but I know the WRE has them. You'll just have to search your generals to find them.

I know and they are part of a generals retinue. And they are handed out by the Government building. for example once you build a Pro-Consuls palace it does a check for generals in the city and if they are not the faction leader of the heir and haven't moved in that turn there is a 60% chance that Magister Militum will be given to them in their retinue list. Religous relics are the same thing.

My point is that the WRE starts with several generals with offices for which you do not have to build any buildings. But it is interesting to know that building a proconsul building will give me more.

Talking of religious relics, anyone found the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch.
A Reading from the Book of Armaments, Chapter 4, Verses 16 to 20:
Then did he raise on high the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch, saying, "Bless this, O Lord, that with it thou mayst blow thine enemies to tiny bits, in thy mercy." And the people did rejoice and did feast upon the lambs and toads and tree-sloths and fruit-bats and orangutans and breakfast cereals ... Now did the Lord say, "First thou pullest the Holy Pin. Then thou must count to three. Three shall be the number of the counting and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither shalt thou count two, excepting that thou then proceedeth to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the number of the counting, be reached, then lobbest thou the Holy Hand Grenade in the direction of thine foe, who, being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it."

Do offices disappear if you dont change them before the bearer dies; like retinue memebers? I couldnt be bothered with them im not really into the RPG style of character management and the game is easy enough without the bonuses. But i was just curious because i cant seem to find anyone with them anymore and that maybe because the bearers have all died
I think so, they appear to be just like other retinue members. Except perhaps with a limit of 1.

Aww, so you can never replace your Bedwetter In Chief once he kicks the bucket? Damned shame, that.
Unless you transfer it over to another person it seems. Thats pretty bugged if you ask me it should be like MTW where you can always reasign them even if the bearer died. Like when the bearer dies someone with like the most influence would get it appearing in their retinue.

Not true, I checked the ancillery file especially for this last night...
All the title or office type ancilleries are handed out as triggers in the same manner as other ancilleries but the list of requirements are quite long.
They also have a limitation which only allows one instance of the title at anyone time.
Now while the list of requirements are long the chance of getting the title is very high. For example all the Barbarian warlord ones have a 100% of being awarded. But you need a 4 star general who just won a heroic victory against decent odds (plus some other stuff) and no one else hold the title to get to the 100% chance of it being awarded...
Actually I quite like it, you can just randomly had out the titles, the general has to earn them...
What would be fun would be generals in your faction who are not family members picking these up, effectively competing with your family generals...
The barbarian ones all pretty much require victorious battles to gain. The Roman ones mainly require a qualified general to be hanging around in the right town (with the correct buildings constructed) for a while...
Yah some of th offices require quite a bit of infrastructure. So you can bet that Rome and Constantinople will be your breeding ground for offices.

I don't know about increasing loyalty, but a sure bet for decreasing it is to disinherit your heir.
In fact, it's theoreticaly possible to trigger mass rebellions in your empire by reassigning the family heir throughout your family members in one turn, each receiving it and then losing it again.
Now why you'd ever want to do this is another matter entirely...

Just a question, my generals in battle whenever they win their loyalty keeps falling. Is there anyway to prevent that? My general even has an office but his loyalty just keeps falling and falling after each victory. Luckily he doesn't have a huge army so he probably has little incentive to rebel yet.

The more your generals win battles, the more their loyalty decreases. Basically after butchering a few thousand barbarians before teatime, they get full of themselves and think they're Mr. Bigshot Emperor and that they'd do a better job running your faction than you. It appears loyalty is much harder to gain than to lose, so I guess you better be wary of any high ranking general in your Roman army. If he starts spending too much time prancing around in front of the mirror quoting Julius Caesar, let him test his metal by putting him in charge of some fearsome peasants. Lets see how his rebellion fares then when all he has is some pitchfork wielding simpletons in silly hats to command.

So....what's the whole point of having a general then? They would only be good for like 3 - 4 battles and then you have to get rid of him to avoid rebellion? You might as well just stick with captains since they can't rebel against you.

While their loyalty does get quite low (I have two or three running around with 1-2, er, rings, or whatever those things are) they don't revolt as easily as they would if a Shogun general had such low loyalty. I only had one of them revolt and he was down to zero, although they will take any other general in their stack with them if they go!
