View Full Version : Does anyone ever use the Last Upgraded Ships
I know the computer never techs that high so I am left wondering, does anyone ever go to the top of the ship foodchain? I haven't yet but playing as the Italians but I could see the advantage in using them. I just usually have too many ships at the time and need the florins/troop production for other things.

No. The naval battles are so much up to luck anyway that I have better things to build. Since I most often start in High, all sizeable enemy fleets are sunk when the new ships come in, anyway.

Naval battles are simple but not mostly luck. Command stars, ship speed and numerical advantage all play a large role.

Occationaly.
The final ship is quite strong and is faster than the barques (? the slow ship for catholics). But they do take forever to get.
My games pretty much always last from Early to Late. I don't see the point of rushing, I like to see my empire grow steadily and stuff. . . or whatever. Yeah the game I got atm I havepretty much got in every sea square 1 Barque/Longboat, 2 Caravels and a Cog. Just waiting to get some Carracks. ^^
Not that I need anymore ships, but they are there!

I sometimes build them just because. By the time they are available I am usually unstoppable but for the glory of the empire I will crank out one or two.~D
I love using Carracks. They're like having a castle in the water... Good for homeland coastal defence when one is turtling.
I have seen the AI tech up to Booms, but no further.

I usually have a province or two building ships constantly, and though I don't focus on teching them up I do try to get to the top eventually. I have made it there a couple of times and am very close to the top in my Danish campaign, I just need 2 more buildings and I think I am at about 50 percent of the map, so I should make it.
