Just played Rebel Dawn,
and as soon as i built a keep for the danes, a pagan faction,
i got the option to build a royal court,
BUT
the image in the building queue was a flat image with the words royal court written on it,
now as soon as i right click on the image i got the following message

Non Existant Generic Filename Requested for Building
Image filename = INFOPIC_FILENAME, Culture=PAGAN

and the option to hit OK,
I did and CTD!!! was the result!!!

right now i'm going to go look at loc files,
i sure hope this is NOT hardcoding...

Giskard,
the Christian Building may not be the ones YOU want for Pagan Buildings,
please check the images in the folders and tell me which ones to use,
it's your campaign after all...

now emissaries cannot be built,
this would need to be changed in the faction association column (AG) in the unit_prod file,
it's almost 2am here, so i won't check this tonight...

also i don't think churches can be built...

now this could be changed in the build_prod file,

i wonder if we can add a new building, for the pagan's,
it would need info and review panel pics,
perhaps some unique pagan religious units too...

I have seen the same error with the golden horde. so I disabled them. I know the image your talking about, its a rather nasty rushed make do Royal Palace pic.

However I have played all the way though Rebel Dawn as Danes (my favourite test faction for the pagan and rebel series) and didnt see that error. I did see it in empire with the golden horde though.

The danes religion, culture and initially owned regions are all set to pagan anyway so it shouldnt be using any Catholic stuff.

The game frequently fails to find the right images for items though. I suspect thats whats happened here.

Also Rebel dawn is just a campaign script and does not change any crusader text files which would hold information like that. My own system uses original crusader files too. I have not tested any of my mods on modfied Crusader files so i honestly have no idea how they would work.

I will look into again and see what happens but I dont know of a way of fix it within the campaign scripts. The problem seems to lie with the files the pagan forces uses outside of the script.

Looks like your right. The pagans dont have any images for buildings at all.

That would explain the problems I have had whilst playing pagans. Some kings and princes and princess dont have any images either. Standard buildings sometimes produce an image not found error as well.

None of those crash the game out here though.

I just click on ok and continue playing.

Im going to look into making a pagan pack.

Darn it, there all BIF files. Whilst I can edit Bif files the program have to use is not the best paint program for this sort of thing for me to use.

Is there some tool that will covert to and from the BIF format from some other format ?

Edit: i remember seeing this with orthodox hungry as well.

we have not found another bif editor,

here's what i do,

I extract a frame from a bif,
open it in paint,
then erase it, so it's all green.

Then i choose the image i want to edit and open it in Adobe Photoshop,
i get it down to the correct size and remove all the background,

then i make the background transparent,
select all and copy,

re-open my "blank" in paint, and paste the image into paint.

the "transparent" part of the image will be white, and i simply fill the white with the green.

save the image, and the pallette is automatically reduced to 8 bit because the original image extracted from the bif is 8 bit.

then create a new bif in the bifreader/editor and import the bmp i made in paint.

it is important to "pass" the image through paint because photoshop WILL make a mess of the pallette.

once you have done this a couple of time it will be very easy!

Looks like im not using the same Bif reader you are.

Can you post the link to the same bif reader your using mate. Mine doesnt appear to have any import features.

Also i made a Pagan image pack based on your instructions. It fixes the minor problems i have and from what you said it fixes your major problem too. It doesnt overwrite existing game files either so it shouldnt affect online play. It will make the pagan faction buildings work on all camnpaigns without the campaign writer needing to do anything too which is also cool.

Its close to 2meg so i have not uploaded it to TW.org.

But if you want to put it online heres the link to the pack on my site.

It is your fix, copied, and zipped up. So its more or less your baby http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

I will be looking into making some pagan building images and updating this pack in the future but for now its purely standard files copied as per your intructions http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

the bifreader i use is here http://www.totalwar.org/maps/Tools.shtml

the import function is in the file drop down menu
http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

I will retrieve and upload your pack tomorrow, i hope,

i have some photo images of sod houses that may, or may not, be usefull to replace the palace and court buildings,
i was considering using them to replace militia, trading post and tavern, but after research, such buildings were very typically european in appearance,

if you want them i can zip and upload.

Other sources for images could be Settlers, and especially Cultures games, although my copy of Cultures went from here - or actually my last house - when it was broken into and i have, so far, been unsuccessfull in finding a replacement copy...
Both these games feature Vikings...

by sources i mean as inspiration

Which one of these bif readers from that page are you using ?

1-08-02 BIFReader 2 (full edit!) RSW (Recompile by Tm) 249

12-10-01 bifreader (alfa) (Edit STW BIF files!) RSW 151

12-10-01 bifreader (alfa) (SourceCode Delphi) RSW 12.4

I downloaed two the first time i saw them but didnt see any import feature. I kepted the one that seemed to have the most features dumped the other one.

Thanks Barocca http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

I have it now you can remove it.
I see what you mean. None of the versions I downloaded seemed to have a file menu. Not one i could remember anyway.

This will be handy.

Thanks again http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

file removed

sod houses uploaded to beta section,

your pagan image pack uploaded to direct download section.

will try and remember to check all bifreader downloads available and see what happened to the version i use...it should have been up there,
thinking maybe the same version exists twice, or a wrong file link...
