You said it wasn't journalism or even equitable. If that is the same thing as 'fake' to you, perhaps you should consult a dictionary or thesaurus.
Do you know what 'disingenuous' means?

Attention. Come to understand this term:
Main Entry: dis·in·gen·u·ous
Pronunciation: "di-s&n-'jen-y&-w&s
Function: adjective
: lacking in candor; also : giving a false appearance of simple frankness :
Those who continue to be so will be called on it.

P.S. Oh, and I bet I know more geography than any 'intellectual' European.
P.S. Oh, and I bet I know more geography than any 'intellectual' European.
You do do you?
The smaller the country the more likely the inhabitants are to know the rest of the world (one could argue that it is forced onto them).
In any case, have you guys noticed what is rollin by in the bottom?
"Man thinks of ex-girlfriend during sex" "Gym-freak wears sleeveless during subzero temperatures." ect ect... It is quite funny.
But since I don't know this channel/program, have they hired people or what?

The video was only a slight exaggeration. If you pick and choose a group of Americans going in and out of a Walmart, you'll hear some answers like the responses in the video. There are some remarkably stupid, angry, insecure people here.
On the other hand, you will get some very thoughtful, intelligent answers as well. This place has some of the brightest and dimmest bulbs on the planet.
Unfortunately, the dimmest ones vote.

That is very true. European countries can't even touch the depth in debate and political philosophy that graces the united states, it would be an achievement to find 1 book about a (ex)ruling president over here. Credit where it belongs, but we still look a whole lot better ~;)

if it isn't journalism, and it isn't equal to journalism, what else could it be? it's a simple, logical process...

Yes Galloway was completely trounced in the "debate" with American politicians .~D ~D ~D If a gobshite like him can do it then why can't other Europeans ?
Oh and take a look in your local bookstore or library , you will find dozens of books on ex-presidents and a few on the current one as well .
It would be a hell of an achievement to find any in a place that doesn't have any books though Frag , I found it nearly impossible to find any at the local chip-shops , but I still found one that had a book on George Washington ~;)
That reminds me of that segment This Hour Has 22 Minutes used to, called 'Talking to Americans'. Ol' Rick Mercer used to go around and ask Americans questions about Canada, doing things like getting them to sign petitions for the removal of the Canadian practice of putting their elders on ice floes and casting them off to sea. He also got Dubya to congratulate the Canadian Head of Government, President Poutine, on his "double double". Good stuff.

Agree. Go to any major university in the nation, and I guarantee you won't hear that. Remember, I said MAJOR, not just any college.
Boondock supports the glass crater idea as well.

I live in America, but I'll be the last to disagree with the fact that we have some stupid people here. Our public schooling is not as good as it should be at all.
We have two years of Texas history (state history) and two years of American history. In my opinion it's rediculous.
That is why I have to research everything I need to know by myself.

I never took state history in Penn or Michigan. I took American History in 8th,9th, and 11 grade. I also took a half year of american government in 11th.

No no no Kaiser, you aren't the only one who can. But see, only dumb people are funny, especially if they fit the sterotype of "American Idiots". That is why you never see anyone who actually knows what is going on, poor for ratings you see.

I take that is everything? No world history, or ancient history, or even human history? GAH is about the best I can come up with.
Anyway, I was just thinking that system isn't too great if you live in, say Montana or South Dakota. What would the two years be about? "Then we had this representative, and we will focus on him and his family for the next three weeks. And the mayor of Outback was also mayor of Backwater and Nowhere, quite a character."

Geography is not stressed that much in our schools. People tend to know where Canada and Mexico are...and the rest...well, too many people don't really seem to care.
One of my favorite jokes, because it crosses several subjects (and is probably true):
After interviewing a particularly short-spoken job candidate, I described the person to my boss as rather monosyllabic. My boss said, "Really? Where is Monosyllabia?" Thinking that he was just kidding, I played along and said that it was just south of Elbonia. He replied, "Oh, you mean over by Croatia?"

At my school it goes
9th Social Studies
10th Wrold History
11th American History & goverment
12th Texas history

Wrold? Is that a special Indian tribe?~;)
That looks way better.
I had history since... well I don't remember actually, but I think we are talking 3rd grade or so. And Geography for some four years in basic school and two more in Gymnasium (about High School, where history also went on for the entire three years).
That said, most people I know couldn't care less. But even those know a lot more than they think, it really seems like things do stick even if the students fart in the general direction of the blackboard. *which movie was I immitating there?*

Since this thread is still bumping around for those of you who regularly watch this comedy show: Do they normally ask real people these questions or is it staged/scripted? It's fairly grainy video, but it looks like real people (not actors) making unscripted comments. However, some folks can play the clueless role well...so it is tough for me to tell.
You can usually get more interesting/funnier comments by asking real people these sorts of things. You just throw out all of the intelligent responses, and focus on the clueless ones.
I suspect the over reaction to this is that it is posted in an international forum. If it was in a U.S. forum, I doubt anyone would have been offended.
