These guys definitely deserves the Nobel. What's shameful about this particular discovery is how their research was disregarded by ulcer specialists as it would remove the need for their specialism, resulting in many years of needless suffering for patients.

My grandfather had stomach ulcers for several decades, and is very vocal about this.

If that is what it takes then that is what we do. You are a marine, you must understand that at some point someone has to put themselves at the focal point to get things done even if it means personal harm. Also you must understand the concept of self sacrifice for the many.

Look at Madam Curie and her family... they all got radiation sickness from their studies. Plenty of other scientists have self infected themselves to prove a cure/

More polar scientists have died in exploration of the antarctic then people have died in space, but the pace of polar exploration has not abated becuase they got cold feet (pun intended).

NASA priority is a PR mission and as such is far too worried about deaths to the put that it does not progress at any where the pace it should. As its mission as it comes to fruition is rather stay on the ground rather then risk a human it is rather nice on an individual scale, but rather pathetic when the actual cost is calculated. So if it can't handle the scene then it should give up human exploration and get more bang for its buck by using robotic fleets.

If you don't believe me that NASA's manned missions are a little more then an expensive PR ceremony... then think on this. The only time that they went into space was after Russia, the only time they decided to go to the moon was after an unmanned Russian spacecraft. To beat that PR coup they had to land men on the moon. Now China sends a manned craft to space and then says they will land on the moon... Nasa then says they will return to the moon.

NASA is not doing what it should do which is showing leadership, daring and innovation. It is letting others seize the initiative and decide what will be the next big thing. The missions have become a PR stunt and a pork barrel rolled into one juicy tit bit for the politicans who cannot face the public if anything goes wrong.

Think of it this way, how many people die each day in car accidents. I wonder how many hours that it would take to cover the NASA astronauts deaths... 24, 144, 720?

It is impressive work. Too often science is retarded by established folks in the field who cling to convenient beliefs rather than trying to fully explain phenomena that are contrary to their view. This has been true throughout the centuries, and it is just as true today.

You have to go to extremes like this to convince some of the rigid thinking types of what seems obvious to the more open minded looking at the exact same information. It is an inspiration to others of us in the trenches to hear these kinds of successes.

BTW before you get the wrong idea... I would much rather see the budget of Nasa increase, just I would like to see it gave an awe inspiring project not a rerun episode.
