Hello all http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Barocca has reported several problems with one of my mods which I have not been able to duplicate. He does not seem to be effected by the same problems I have see but instead has some totally new ones popping up.

I am wondering why there should be a difference and what other changes to the game may effect campaigns.

So if you can spare an hour, can somebody with modified game files such as the crusader files (not startpos files) download one of my campaigns, Rebel dawn, pagan dawn or empire and play it for a hour then tell me if anything odd happened.

I feel barocca is right that something odd is happening but without the ability to confirm it Im stumped as to why its happening any all.

My current theory is that perhaps barocca MTW install is corrupted or something but thats a pretty lame theory with nothing to back it up.

When you post your results can you list all mods you have installed including campaigns and any image packs please.

I/We really need to understand why custom campaigns cause such problems because it will more than likely effect everybody who writes campaigns.

Thanks.

This is an important issue for all mod makers. My own campaigns do not modify other game files but a lot of mods have done already.

Failing to figure out the problems this is causing will effect the players choices in the future. Most players wont download mods if they seem to crash their computers out. They wont see the distinsion between different mods they will simple see them all as dodgy.

So its down to us mod makers to find out why some mods crash on some systems but not others.

My best guess is other files have been edited and they are clashing with campaign files.

just read this know,so no time to check
for you yet although I did play your mod
for a few turns last week with one
of my more modified installs with no
poblem, but it can make a big difference
if the prods, have been tampered with.
I suggest you add all your source files
to mod ,if you change them from original
to make a mod, or recomend ppl
use originals ,if that is what you have done.
I'll give it a go later any way and c if I
can help.

Not sure if i've found the error yet,
it appears to reside in the unit_prod file
and it appears to be MY FAULT

the game checks the building file on load and will chuck a wobbly if there is an error,
but seems to ignore errors in the unit file.
a simple wrong comma can invalidate a unit, or even several units...

see http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/Forum5/HTML/000791.html
for details of bug fixes of MY MISTAKES...

So you guys think the Buildprod is the file causing some of the problems then ?

As soon as we know for certain it might be worth adding a foot note to our readmes about it.

barocca had some interesting fixes so far for other problems. Im going to try and worth with him and finding some solutions for the others I think.

I am definately interested in a pagan building pack and that might require a modified file or two in order to make it a true pagan build list.

Perhaps even add druids priests like barocca suggested. If things work the way i hope they will work we may be able to make a drop in pagan expension for any mod maker to use.

I was wondering along a similar vein, i have just installed the 1092AD campaign mod by Paladin and also downloaded the MTW Modpack by Thorbeck but haven't installed that too in case it conflicted with the 1092 mod....any one know if it does or should the two run smoothly together? Dont want to end up re-installing MTW.

Thanks, downloading now.

Im going to start a new thread so we dont have to talk via several unrelated threads from now on.

Look for the Pagan Addon thread.
