I am currently playing the Swiss in Medival Total War 1.1 with the 1.85 version of the Med Mod. I am playing the swiss and need some help. I have destroyed the HRE in 10 turns with the help of the English. Well now the Golden Horde is at my doorstep and my Swiss Armoured Pikemen Keep getting flanked. Any help in defeating the horde or any other tips with the swiss.
Grab some good mercenary cav and use them on the flanks. Depending on what units are getting around your flanks the alternative is to setup with a unit of SAPs (for cav flank) or FMAA (for inf flank) on each flank, just behind the main line. Turn them to face out and put them on Hold Form, dont commit them to the main fight save them for the expected flank.

For some reason when I tried a custom match to see how good the swiss could take an all Mongol Heavy Horse army. I had all Swiss Armoured Pikemen. I named It "Horse Slaughter". I thought Pikemen could destroy horses. The horses slaughtered me.
Probably has a lot to do with the valor/morale of the two armies. While SAPs can be quite effective against cav, if the Mongols had a high command star gen and high valor cav while you had low valor SAPs then with a little flanking you could get burnt.

The pikemen, even the best of them(the Swiss),cannot face alone a heavily armoured cavalry force.Historically,as far as I know, the pikemen were combined with ranged units armed with arcebusiers or muskets. It will be also wise to use swordsmen to protect the flanks and the rear of the phalanx.
