View Full Version : WRE Mobile Artillery - How is it?
Anyone use the WRE mobile artillery, I think they are called "carroballistas" or something like that? I never used scorpions or ballistas, they never seemed powerful enough to waste a unit on, though I did find onagers to be a great defensive weapon. How are these new units? Anyone use them? Thanks.

Some one used them against me in a MP game.
They had 3 units of them (dont know if they were upgraded or not) and they were quite deadly, skirmishing away from cavalry and then chewing up the infantry screen I used.
I then turned some archers (using fire arrows) on them which were much more effective than I thought they would be and quickly whittled down two units of them.
Thats the only time I've ever seen them though so its hardly definitive.
Just tested these in quick battle... holy crap!
Standard unit size is 6 carriages, one shooter and one driver. Weapon seems to be scorpion. Basically it's a horse archer unit with siege weapon. These tear everything apart (wel maybe not light horses or horse archers). Perfect for general killing or firing in tight formations. It's rather unrealistic that these things reload and fire while moving I think?
Hmm, sounds like a good bridge defense weapon then, combine with onagers, then shake and stir! :)
Keep in mind though they do have a much shorter range than scorpians. I believe its 120 which is the same as normal archers.
They still sound like a good unit though.
They are very good. I have decided not to use them much. I have in fact not used them at all in my long ERE campaign.
