Enemy Territory (ET) was mentioned briefly in this (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=50544) thread. I've played it a lot recently, and find it very enjoyable. It is a fun, fast-paced multiplayer First Person Shooter set (sorta) in World War 2 (not very historical though).

A quote from the older thread about the ET community.

big john,

enemy territory has a very large following. you can play it from gamespy arcade or from directly within the game server finder. typically, you'll find from 300 to 1000 servers going at any one time.

there are quite a few mods out there also and a fair number of map makers keeping the game alive. the current patch is 2.60 and seems pretty bug free. the game also has server downloading (if the server has it enabled). thus, if you log onto a server where they have maps and files you need, you can get them directly off the server you're logged into rather than having to go out and find them somewhere. not all servers do this, and some keep the download speeds way too slow, but others are quite good about it. and some will auto-send you to their map/file site where you can get files.

some of the current mods even have mods. there are several versions of etpro, etshrub, and etpub.

the server settings vary quite a bit. you can also host games on a temporary basis or on a permanent up all the time basis. hosts can choose how many players can play, what type of game style like last man standing, campaign, limited lives and so on. hosts can limit what classes and weapons are available also. i've played on a few servers where you can only play as a covert ops (in most cases this means sniper, but not always). i've played on other servers where the gravity has been set very low and you can hop around like superman....quite fun :)

it's a large community and lots of fan sites and it's totally free. it's made by id software and they just decided to release the entire thing for free rather than make an expansion pack for sale. quite remarkable.

K.

I've wasted a lot of time on the game as "Eightball_DH." Anyone else play? I'm usually on one of about four public servers: House of Frag, House of Dixie, House of Boom, and sometimes Wodenfire. I'll pwn you (or more likely you'll pwn me! ~;) )!

If you are interested in getting the game, click here (http://enemy-territory.4players.de:1041/). It is completely free and legal.

Price of Peace (http://www.priceofpeace.net/index.php?) is a realism mod for ET (kind of like Europa Barbarorum for Rome: Total War). That is their button in my signature. Like EB, they haven't released a beta yet, but it looks very nice and professional.

I myself got the MP part for free. I play every so often, at really random times.

The guys here at the Org used to run a server for this game or something but not sure what happened to it.

I used to play it a long time ago but I really, really, really can't stand the horrible fake German accents in the game so I've stopped playing it mainly for that reason.

And also because there is too few maps.

It's a good game, though.

Use to lay it, but when my comp got fixed i lost it, but after playing Red Ochestra( a very very Realistic WW2 mod for ut04) i would find it hard to go back to the arcade style of play.

I play ET, however I live in the Netherlands, whereas you live in the US. 100m/s ping isn't very playable with ET. At least that's my opinion.

I started playing ET after a very long time absence from RtCW.

Anyways it was a fun game, however I'm getting a bit bored with the same old maps and the gameplay a bit too. Most custom maps are rather bad and poorly thought out i.m.o. Lots of really large, going nowhere type of maps. Most custom maps aren't really built for good, solid gameplay.

It's still fun just to blast away a bit for a while to blow off some steam.

I wish I could play the original a bit more again, however hardly anyone plays it anymore. Too bad, it was very enjoyable when the game was released.

You gotta be kidding!?! I always chose the Germans just to shout out "Ze enemy izz weekened" every 3 minutes! ~D :army:

It's a great game, I think I still even got it installed as it is fun to play every now and then!
