I ask this as a fellow fan and partially as an EB Member.

What is your perception of the Europa Barbarorum Project so far?

I will ask this question again after the OB release.

(1) The professional appearance of a corporate-produced Game.

(2) Not quite corporate, but the most professional volunteer project for TW in existence.

(3) One of the top three mods in terms or professionalism.

(4) Solid. Above average.

(5) No better or worse then most mods out there.

(6) Less than average, there are more impressive efforts out there.

(7) Sub-standard. The bargain bin.

(8) Honestly? EB is an inside joke.

I can't say. I don't have much knowledge of EB's inner workings.

It certainly has the, as you call it, professional appearance of a corporate-produced Game. But you guys are taking your time to finish the product, both to our benefit, well, and our torture. ~;)

I am only speculating, but with no meddling financier hiding in the back with a terminal deadline, and with EB being a purely voluntary project, the crew is allowed to dedicate time and care to ‘nurse’ it, rather than it being, like an official release, considered another ‘job’ you have to finish in time.

Like I said, I am only speculating, but I think you guys in the EB crew genuinely love EB, and it shines through in your previews. Keep up the good work. ~:)

Since EB is far ahead of vanilla (and it's not even open beta yet), how could it possibly be LESS than standard "corporate-produced" games?! ~

welll, in-depth they kick vanillia's butt....

but remeber they're building it on teh foundations of RTW...

when i got Rome total war it was is in my oppinion the best computer game ever, That was untill i saw EB, if this mod is anything like the previews suggest than it will be probably the best mod ever, from what i have heard of all the additions your makeing, i cannot think of any other startegy games or mods in the world that can match its historical realism or deapth of strategy

i felt the same.. it was a major discovery. i played with an open mouth for teh first 5 weeks...
it was such a step up from Age Of Mythology...or any other RTS..

and then RTR came with soem minor fixes..and then i saw EB...

and i thinkEB will give me a years worth of playing with an open mouth...

years? I sure hope not.... I sincerely hope the RTW engine will get better soon:

- better AI
- More factions / units with distinct and realistic animations
- more complex strategy/diplomacy/gvt infrastructure
- AND ....BIGGER BATTLE !! like it was in history ! at least 20k , if not 40k

I voted 3. No doubt that EB is built on the foundations of CA's great Rome: Total War, but this is definitely the best mod for RTW. I have downloaded a couple of other mods, and got bored with them much quicker than I did with Vanilla (a great experience, you must admit at the beginning). But I have a lot of fun just hanging out at the forums, just imagine what the game will be like...

EB historical accurate and professional? come on! ~;)

Very unprofessional. A corporation would have released it months ago, even if the mod were only 25% finished.:tongue2:

joking aside, i would go with option 2.

I voted 2, which, in my ranking, is the best option. The EB team is more dedicated to achieving their set goals than any corporate, which have to consider marketing issues to any extent to some point and sacrifice from the purity of the project.

I went for 2, although there are other mods that get very close to the level of EB. Chivalry and Blue Lotus spring to mind.

its a great and proffesional project...but i dont think you would last long without a basis game...i still think its the best mod around...dont forget that you guys have no big time pressure nor your life depends on it...if you do it for fun much better thing result.

Very professional, very efficient, and I especially admire the amount of historical research and verification going into every little fact and nuance in the mod. Great job all!

...I think I'm still more a fan than a member, hmm.

Until I actually sit and play the mod, how can I, or anyone else for that matter, offer an informed opinion as to whether the mod is any good or not?

My choice was #3.

I'm looking forward to trying it out. Even though I feel it's more an alternative history mod.

Personally I think EB is a good mod that is very professional and shows you can skin and create better than the perfesionals while still keeping it nonperfesional

My vote goes to 2 ... for now, I still have to play the mod ... ~D

Creating a game u have to sell and modding a game are 2 different issues ... majority of the people who play this game dont even care if amasons are historical accurate, dont care why Sparta doesn't have walls, why legionaries ware lorica segmenta or lorica halmata, why the egyptian "terminators" look like they just came from the beach but fight better then a roman legion, why the enemy general screams "GERONIMO" in front of your armoured hoplites etc etc, all they wanna see are small shinny soldiers on monitor screen spitting their guts on the battlerfield and getting mauled by very big "oliphaunts" ~D

Btw: in MP, these are the people who field an army of kataphracts :knight:

well, these people BUY the game for fun and these are the main target of the game ...

for the rest of us, well, we got them ~;p , the modders, to fullfill our needs ~;p

I went with 2, but it's actually.. better then 1 for me.

Actually lack of so called proffesionalism means close relations with community, and this can have great effect - lots of ideas of which some can, some can't or shouldn't be included. Everything to produce more historically accurate game and still improve the gameplay.

don't get your hopes up....

if they knew for sure it will be released then the situation is:
a: it's already doen now..there just building tension
b: they're rushing like hell and you'll get a buggy release

the beta will be out as soon as the ammount of work that will be implemented is determined. and then filled up. then tested for immediate crashes and more...

after that you'll get your semi-complete not so buggy (still buged, but not enormous,it's a beta silly!) open beta of EB. i think EBOB is a nice name...

still, khelvan is already working his but of for the OB..so give the guy a rest..
