On of my generals just got the 'butcher' vice/virtue.
I'm so proud ~;)

If i recall it increases his dread.

I was fighting an army of peasants (about 2000) , they started running and I sent my hoblilars around to cut them off. After that the militia sergeants made short work of them. It was a massacre.

My question to the rest of you is this:

Is it worth it to choose a territory that you let constantly fall into rebellion so that you can train you generals there vs limited opposition? I'v been thinking that Ireland would work well.

I think eventually the rebels become better equipped so be careful if you try this. I would just send your general out to conquer provinces. No sense is maintaining a training army when you could train them on real targets.

It depends upon how you like to play the game and whether you choose to exploit the dynamics of the game. You can use the rebel province tactic to quickly train up generals to multiple stars through this tactic which makes this general and his men formidible against real enemies.

Most of the rebel units that show up are in relation to the number of men you have in the province prior to their arrival. Place a single unit into the troublesome province, say a unit of 40 archers and you may find a single unit of 60 rebel urban militia appears. Take one single unit of lesser numbers and face them and when you beat them you get rewarded because of winning against an enemy with numerical advantage.

I've used this at the beginning of my game to train up six star Royal Bodyguard generals.

I suppose it is a cheap tactic. Effective i'm sure, but not exactly 'historical'.
Anyway, i might try it in the next campaign just to see how it works.

As for your question: yes, many players recommend the tactic you mention, though others consider it an exploit. Keep in mind that the size of the rebellion depends on the number of troops you have stationed as garrison. Small garrisons give tiny rebellions, huge garrisons will beget even bigger rebellions. Recommended area's for trying this are Portugal and Lithuania because they are very prone to unrest, though Ireland is more rebellious then most other provinces.

Just make sure you actually get that prisoner count over 1,000 otherwise you might end up as a 'blood lover' and that has a 3 point hit. My Viking princes almost always end up as butchers in VI.
