A UK obesity expert has analysed why it is that women who move in with their man often put on weight as a result

I can't help thinking he's missed the most obvious reason...

Hmmm.

It seems English Analyists haven't quite figured out the difference between correlation and causation.

I can't see why. When they move they normally get some regular "exercise".~;)Sexual intercourse, according to various studies, takes less energy that the "movement" and the "exhaustion" after the "success" indicates. Or even common sense indicates, in fact. The "action" does not cost as much energy use as many thought. The exhaustion is mainly the increasing heart rate combined with the after effects of "org _ _ m."

Indeed, it is possible that the common misconception of the "bedroom exercise" actually burning your calories motivate you to eat more, believing you can since you "use" them before going to sleep anyway, thus resulting in obesity.

I'd say that depends. I've sweated pretty hard...ahem. I expect there is some kind of a "vicious circle" effect, though; overweight people have lower stamina, especially in these cases, and so have less of a workout, and then gain more weight...

Does this go in the idiot category? Along with that article about how women prefer men with money?

This is the UK you know, obviously the Government has to do everything for everyone and if it doesn't, well its the governments fault of course. In this case it has only reached as high as just blaming men in general, soon, the word "man" will be replaced with "Blair" or "parliament". Say hello to some new taxes and an even more infringing government. "Progress" I believe is the catch phrase these days.

Surely an obvious reason is complacency?

As the article says:

Women may do less exercise when they are in a relationship, skipping a trip to the gym to spend quality time with their partner.
If you're in a steady relationship, strengthened by moving in with your partner, there is less motivation to try and stay in shape because you're "already there" as opposed to being "on display." It might sound like an antiquated explanation, but worthy of consideration none the less.

I'm just waiting for a ban on food. You will get a tasteless paste which exactly fulfills your daily requirements, and that's it.

Someone will probably still manage to cripple themselves with it, resulting in even more draconion measures. You can only eat in the presence of a trained medic or something.

You know weather plays a big part as well. Hotter areas has less obese people than colder ones, but thats my opinion.

A couple of comments on this:
Women are rarely as active as the male during the act. So her chances of burning as many calories is considerably reduced.

The energy expended also depends on the person of course..."2 minute eggs" aren't going to break a sweat. The wham-bam quickie approach isn't going to help much. If you have more control over...certain events...and yet maintain a high energy level, then you can burn a quite a few more calories and time.

It does increase the body temperature, heart rate, and metabolism temporarily, and the effect of even moderate exertion on metabolism is going to result in higher caloric burn rate throughout the day than watching TV.
