How to gain advantage by the Hordes Appearance

Well, I was playing with the Egyptians (it was my second campaign) when the Horde appeared. I was expecting them so I wasn't suprised. You might think I built a huge army to defend my provinces, but instead I built assasins. You may ask why so let me explain. When they appear the Khan has no heirs so if dies his faction is eliminated and his forces become rebels. When you've killed the Kahn you can then use emissarys to bribe their armies at a very low cost (about 6000 florins for a an army). I used this tactics to conquer the Byzanteens and Novgorod.

Well that's a nice tactic but that's not really for me. I can't train my assassins that good lol. My only reasonable option is to let the Horde takes on Novs and Byz. I wait til it comes down to the last two (usually Byz vs. Mongols) then I attack the stronger one and ally the weaker one.

Your assasins don't need to be that good. If you have 15 assasins of rank 0 they'll probably do just fine.

Thats why if you control those provinces in which Mongols appear destroy the border forts and remove your troops. Thats how you can make it easier to kill their kahn. And I'm not talking about a Sicilian king you mention in your post you gave link to. I'm well aware that the border fort kills a huge amount of assasins and thats why I'm not talking about assasinating all the faction leaders, but only the Mongolian kahn.

I would do it once, maybe twice.

But it would be too cheap a tactic to use it regularly.

What I used to do as the English was make sure I had a large army of spears and xbows and wait for them in the province that they would most likely appear in.

They would take massive casualties in an attack, seriously weakening them from being a major threat to an equal or lesser one.

Another cheap one is building the fortifications up to the maximum possible level until they appear, stacking an armour piercing missile unit or two, letting them assault and watching the meat grinding.
