Ok 1st the good news I am playing basketball for my chruch YAY. Bad news I havent played organized basketball since I was 11 BOO. Does anyone have any tips? Practice starts in a couple of weeks and I think they will put in the post to bang bodies ang grab rebounds...I need help.

aerobic exercise (a lot)

shooting practice (a lot)

watch a lot of basketball and learn from it

I'd say work on your strength. You'll need it to box people out for rebounds.

How tall? How much you weigh?

5'10 207 im alredy pretty strong for my age at 15 I can bench 225 and squat 365 (Although since football started I have probably lost some). PS. I plan to play it like football knocking out iny weaker children for the ball. Uh-Rah~:cool:

Yeah, you've basically got it down. You should just use your strength (which seems to be a lot) to your advantage. Play clean though, because if you get a bad reputation you'll get called for everything.~:)

Score on one end then run back to the other and score again. Repeat.

Also, practice your turn-around jumpshots. Since you are big, you can back up your opponent, fake left, fake right and shoot either way.

And practice your freethrows, they might "hack-a-shaq" you.

You are formidable, (I'm 5'10 and 250, about, dunno bout benching and squats, though), but you shouldn't have a problem getting through people. I suggest work on speed and agility, that seems to be very important in basketball. Run. Alot.

Depends on your relative height.

If your league isn't too tall, you should be able to Shaq in close -- though throwing elbows WILL get you called in a church league.

If your opponents have height on you, you will have to do turn-arounds or hooks to overcome height blocks. Nobody should leverage you out of the way, but height is another issue.

I think you might be able to get through defenses with your body size. If you can accelerate quickly (football should be good for this) and get moving fast, nobody will want to stay in your way. Practice running with the ball at max speed and scoring off the break.

i'd say it really depends on what kind of people you're going to be going against. of course the big thing to work on is the basics... dribbling footwork, shooting form. aside from that work on your speed and agility your lack of height (no offense im over 6'6'' so most people "lack height" :P) might be a bit of a problem. also since this is a church league, when somebody beats you off the dribble... admit defeat and dont foul or use arms to block him. of course the intentional foul does have its place :D.
once you have the basics down start working on a few moves, boxing out, posting up etc. if you can find a friend who knows how to play ball well and work with him... play a little street ball or something.

btw one more piece of advice dont try to pull all kinds of fancy moves having a few simple moves that you are good at and a decent shot is a great foundation to work from. and never stop working on the basics, doing drills like the typewriter are great for ball handling... and you can never do too many layups :P

I found you yay. My first game is tommorw at 9 in the pm. They have me at PF (starting I may add:san_grin: ). The good news is the other 4 starters are really good and really fast. So no shooting for me I get rebounds and short post shots. Oh and I also have a new nickname due to the fact those 4 guys are of a Darker persuasion "The big Nordic ****** ******" YaY a nick name:san_cool:

Ok, from one church league center to another I will give you the tip that will save your life.

Use the hook, post up, fake left, roll right, and hook the ball. Get good and its easy points. Although i'm 6'4 so it may be a bit harder for you, but you can do it.
